I am not they are intimidated by me. One man refused to sell me a car till my husband showed up , so I started asking him questions about gas mileage , What kind of engine was in the car and how many liters. 4 cylinder or 6? what all the safety features were. Was the car under Warranty and for how many years. What kind of down payment would I need and How much the monthly payments were going to be. He answered all my questions and then I told him I didn't want the car and I wasn't married.

I am not intimidated at all. I used to go shopping for a new car until all the salesmen or women jump on you as soon as your feet are on the ground to make that sale. This finally got so annoying I quit going . Now, if I need a car, I will do the fast talk or no deal.

Because most of the car salemen are weasel who are usually trying to get into the lady customer's pants.
I worked at a Central Valley California Ford dealership (one of the largest in the southern California) back in the 90's and frankly I haven't seen a larger collection of sleezeball salesmen in my life. Everyone of them was a certified pervert.
Even if you were to go there with your husband or male companion, they'd be ogling you while your male friend ogled the car.

Some of these jackals think women are stupid and have no business sense. This is when they try to stuff you into a car that's been sitting on the lot so long they actually have to pay to house it. Your salesman will do just about anything to slamdunk you into one of those.

Car salesman= slime

I'm not! I always go with my husband but I am the hard sell. They have to get the price, payment, etc. down to where I think they should be or I will walk out. I have never seen a car that I can't live without! They won't usually let me get far before they come up with another 'deal'. My husband says I am just mean to salesmen and like to give them a hard time. But, I usually walk away the winner, and that is what counts.

I am not a woman and not intimidate by them. they just piss me off all most as much a anyone can get pissed off.

They are trying to rip you off. the more they can get from you the more money the sales guy makes. So I would think not just women but most men are afraid to trade cars for fear of being scamed.

I had one place tell me they was going to call the cops on me if I did not leave. They tried to rip me off to bad it was not funny so I started yelling at them really loud and was letting everyone in the building and in the parkling lot know what kind of rip off they tried to do to me.

I hate to go not intimidated. I hate to get mad like that.

I'm not; I'm annoyed by their condescending attitudes toward women.

I worked in a couple dealerships, was married to a mechanic, and do a lot of driving -- so when some sleaze ball salesman or clueless service "advisor" assumes that I'm a twit, it really gets under my skin. Most of the time, I know more than they do!

I wouldn't say I am intimidated, but car salespeople do act like I don't exist and only talk to my husband. I imagine it's just sexism, that only men know about cars and are the ones paying for them (both not true in my case).

honestly i think it's because we go in there with the mentality that some "man" is going to screw us over. that some guy is going to think women don't know anything about cars or a good business deal. kind of like "entering the lions den". but, lets face it even if you get a saleswoman you may get screwed too. best thing is to educate your self on vehicles and prices that are suitable. also, go in there with a firm realistic idea of what you want and can finacially handle. don't be afraid to walk away and shop around.

Now that I am older, I can take them. However, my dad sent me to shop for a car for my 16th B'day. He told me to look around and he would buy whatever I wanted (with some restrictions).

I hated it so much. The dealers would all look at me like I was such a dunce. They laid it on thick so I would buy the most expensive item on the lot. They would also not want me to drive the cars! They wanted to take me for a spin instead. Many of them hit on me too.

It was awful.

Dealers think women will not negotiate properly, so they try to sell you the most expensive car they can and they also try to screw you on the trade-ins.

Most women are intimidated by the salesperson because it has always been my belief that the male salesperson think women are unprepared when it comes to engines, tires, etc.

I also believe salespeople feel that they are speaking to an equal when talking to a male.
