I found and engine and transmission for a mustang. It is a 4.6 standard. The guy said he didnt know the exact number of miles on the engine but it was definitely less than a hundred thousand. Would 1100 be too much for everything I would need to put the engine in the car? It would include the computer, harness and everything else I needed. He said he could give it to me for about 800 or 900 if i gave him my engine and tranny, which is a 3.8. Any answers from mechanics or people that know about this subject would be very appreciated.

Average engine exchange on any car runs $800-$2000 depending on the car.

I had a Ford Aerostar work van that needed an engine change. I paid $1250 for same engine, remanufactured, to be installed with core going to them.

As long as the engine, transmission works, no flaws, no major issues, etc, its a fair price. Not easy work to remove, install an entire engine.

Just make sure there is a warranty on the new items or you might get stuck with worse than you have now. Also check the Better Business Bureau on the person/business to make sure no major complaints.
