Okay, i'll get it out there... i believe in abortion. but i know that lots of people don't... and i respect that. however, if you (and our government) don't believe in it, then they shouldn't get it done. i don't think people or government should take away my right just because they don't like it. what if i need it done? what if i was raped? what if my mother got pregnant, and she couldn't keep the baby? i think these government officials and religious leaders are forgetting that it's not just careless teens getting them done! i'm sorry, i really think it's a violation of rights... lemme know

i can see everyone's points... almost 68% of teens and young women who keep the babies end up abusive, druged and ignore their child completely. i think my biggest problem is with the government... it isn't their business... it's ours

I believe in the right to choose . What's next Soylent green. We have got to stop these fanatics from taking away our rights. They want us to have the right to go in debt so if we hit hard times they will take all we have. A lot of government people have had abortions and hid it !

Of course there are conflicting rights...yours, the father's and most of all, the unborn child. We know who speaks for you. We know who speaks for the father. Who should speak for the rights of the unborn child?

How can you say that no one has the right to defend the unborn child? That's absurd.

We regulate what you do to your body in countless ways. We regulate what drugs or alcohol you can ingest and at what age and how much. We control what surgical procedures you can have done just for the asking. Call a surgeon and tell him you'd like to have your good arm amputated. When he says no, is he violating your "right" to control your own body? In many states, it's harder for an under-aged child to get her ears pierced than to get an abortion.

There are millions of couples who would adopt a healthy baby today. They wait years in vain while 2 million abortions per year are performed.

People say that the aborted child would have had a "difficult life" if it were born into poverty. Really? Well then is the solution to just kill it? What's more "difficult" than being murdered?

I say go ahead and use the morning after pill. At least if an embryo is not implanted in the womb, you could say the pregnancy never developed. It’s for that reason that I'd support embryonic stem cell research.

Rape and incest...certainly. To protect the mother's life...of course. But otherwise, if a pregnancy occurs, have the baby and give it up for adoption to a loving home.

You’ll sleep better.

Addendum re. your further comments: You "fear for the babies"? (See my earlier comment) If you're afraid for the quality of the babies lives, how can you be comfortable with KILLING THEM as an alternative?????

I admire pro-lifers, but I believe that the concept is Utopian.

Though I am personally against abortion, I am realistic about the world situation. I feel that legislation needs to give people more rights: I think that abortion should be legal in the first trimester only. But I believe that there should be a cumpulsory 72 hour time period in which to weigh the situation. I also believe that the morning after pill should be legalized in order to minimize these unwanted pregnancies.

This will prevent a lot of at-home abortion attempts, and will allow children a better opportunity to be born into a loving family.

Being a male, I realize that I should not be sharing my non-commital comments on this subject.
Personally, I don' t like the idea of abortion, no one should. I also don't think the American government should have a right to dictate anything regarding this subject. It's a direct violation of our privacy and freedom.
This decision should only involve the parties concerned and I firmly believe there isn't ONE fat-a$$ed politician who has earned the right to make decisions concerning my family. This is between the pregnant female and anyone she wishes to communicate with, regarding abortion. The girl's body is the girl's. The guilt and pain will have to be endured by the girl, not some overpaid jackass in Washington.

Tell the government to mind it's own damned business and stay out of ours.

I totally agree with you and junebug. The bottom line is IT IS NO ONE ELSE'S BUSINESS if a woman chooses to have an abortion. And for all those who keep spewing about it being a sin against god and murder, etc. etc., what about people who don't believe in god, but believe in the theory of evolution? Or are athiests? Or have some other view on religion? Just because you personally believe god exists and condems abortion DOESN'T MEAN IT'S SO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have that right to choose what you believe and you'd be appalled if someone tried to interfere with that belief. So why interefere with others?? There are a great many people who need to get off their pulpit, look at the real world and mind their own gd business!!

I completely agree with you. That is one of the most personal and private decisions a woman can make and it should be her choice. If other people don't believe it's right, they shouldn't have one, but they also shouldn't be so arrogant as to presume to know what is right for someone else. These people think their beliefs are superior and can't mind their own business and they make me sick. If a woman decides to have an abortion and they think it's a sin, then that's between her and her God if she believes in one. (Which is also no one's business!!) Just because some think of it as "killing" or "murder" - THAT IS THEIR OPINION. There are countless scientists who view this as removing tissue. Who is to say which is right or wrong?? I can't even grasp how people think a complete stranger's abortion would affect them personally... so much so that they form hate groups that attack patients and fire upon Dr.'s offices and clinics... How pro-life is THAT????? It's a disgrace to see this country regressing back into an abortion ban. What next? Arranged marriages? Segregation? Prohibition?? It makes me want to have a drink to even think about it.

Wow,
How about some birth control? I do not believe in abortion, I am a med. proff. and hate to inform you but a fetus past 6 weeks has a beating heart and spinal cord soooooo they can feel. So what is the difference, if the problem in fact is over population, of killing a neonate after delivery? Not sound logic. And further more in cases of rape ect., and other equally disturbing reasons usually used to justify aborting a fetus, the morning after pill. Research the repercussions of an abortion, what it does physically and mentally (mentally only applies to those with moral fiber).

i ask, what about the rights of the child? does the child not have rights? who gave you the choice? on a religious stand point, GOD gave you the choice. however, GOD also put that child in you. that child is yours, a gift of GOD. maybe you are thinking, what kind of 'god' would have a girl raped so she can have a child? thing is, God knows everything. he knows what choices you make b4 you make them. He knows what events will transpire b/c of those choices made. and it is true, all of our choices will affect other people's lives.

now b4 you go on a rampage and start marching the streets for womens rights, let me give you the view of a child's rights w/o using biblical language.

the definition of abortion is "the induced termination of pregnancy and expulsion of an embryo or fetus that is incapable of survival." this came from Webster Dict. now if you find the def. of every word used in that def. then you will see, that abortion is not only unethical but should be deemed illeagal. first of all fetus, it is latin meaning 'young one.' when using young one, we normally refer back to baby or infant. baby def. 'a very young child', 'an unborn infant; a fetus', 'the youngest member of a family or group or a very young animal.'

now plug these defintions into the abortion def. 'an induced termination of pregnancy and expulsion of an unborn infant that is incapable of survival.'

have a look at expulsion, that def is 'to force, drive out'. so what abortionists are doing is forcing out of the womb an unborn infant. to kill 'to put to death or deprive of life' is what you are doing when aborting a baby. murder, in the United States, is illegal. murdering is killing another human being. b/c the fetus is a potential human being then, yes, it should be illegal. life is the property or quality that distinguishes living organisms from dead organisms and inanimate matter, manifested in functions such as metabolism, growth...and response to stimuli. so by killing something that is already living is murder. you are depriving life!!! think the fetus isnt living? the defintion provided for life was agreed as accurate by both sides of the argument. both sides agree that the fetus is living. the only thing that stops laws being passed to ban abortion is the fact that the fetus can not live on its own before the 28 week mark. babies born in the 28th week have a survival rate of 90%. most babies born in the 3rd trimester will live through adult hood (granted they are healthy).

as far as the rape thing goes, only 1% of babies aborted are b/c of rape or incest. 3% or b/c of mother's health, baby might have a health problem 3%, cant afford having a child 21%, not ready for respondsiblity 21%, not mature enough 11%, had all the children they ever wanted 8%, other reasons 4%. the rape thing i can understand a very little bit, but its the other reasons that piss me off. 50% of women who get an abortion, use it as a means of birth control. ALL THESE FACTS CAME FROM NARAL.

to end my rant, i would like to share with you that approx 43% will have an abortion. thats more common than divorce, 3 times more common than breast cancer. twice as many women will recieve an abortion than a college degree. kind of scary isn't it?

You know. My mother always said, "your rights stop where other people rights start. You have the right to swing your arm around where ever you want. Until it comes in contact with my face. You don't have the right to hit me dispite your right to swing your arm."

That's the crux of the question that you are asking. Just because you have the "right to choose". Choose what, killing someone in the name of convenience? Because they are unwanted by you?

Abortion is ending a human life. Outside the womb that would be considered murder. Just because the life is inside the womb does not change the value of that life.

When your parents are old, they may have no value to you. But you don't have the right to kill them just because they are of no value and a burden to you.

A child that is a product of a rape isn't at fault for it's life. You are punishing that life for something that it didn't do. Most significantly , you are exercising the death penalty on an innocent life. What if we killed you because your brother raped another girl.

We, as civilized people, do not kill people in the name of convenience.

Ask yourself "the right to choose WHAT?"

I think that it should be reserved for rape victims, incest, and danger to the mother cases. I don't believe that it is right to kill your baby just because you were irresponsible and now you don't want to have to deal with it. That being said, I'm PRO CHOICE. I believe that every woman has a right to decide whether or not to have a baby. HOWEVER, she should make that decision before she ever thinks about having sex. One day we will look back and say in what world was it ever ok to kill a baby? Just like we look back and say in what world was it ok for women and black people to be denied rights?
