Pay attention. Some people have answered this question wrong.
-3 - [-9] = -3 - 9 = -12
* Do not forget that you get the absolute value for the [-9] so that gives you a 9. And do not forget that there is a minus before the absolute value so that is a -3 -9 = -12
8 - [-7] = 8 - 7 = 1
* Same note. Do not forget the minus sign before the absolute value.
-20 / [-5] = -20 / 5 = -4
* You divide the two number after getting rid of the absolute value. So that is a 4 and you keep the negative sign because you of the following rule:
- / + = -
And keep these in mind:
+ / - = -
+ / + = +
- / - = +
The same when multipling those signs.
-4 - [-16] = -4 - 16 = -20
Hope that helped!

-3-(-9) = -3+9 = 6
8-(-7) = 8 +7 = 15
-20/-5 = 20/5 = 4
-4-(-16) = -4+16 = 12
Simple rules:-
1. Remember, like signs, multiplied = plus
e.g. minus into minus = +
and plus into plus = +
2. Unlike signs, multiplied = minus
e.g. minus into plus = -
and plus into minus = -
