Most girls start between 12 and 16 years old. Generally you will feel bloated like your stomach is getting fat and you may have cramps in your abdomen. Your breasts will feel sore, kind of like they're bruised a little bit. You may feel achy, tired and irritable, may get a headache. It isn't exactly like you feel sick, just uncomfortable and annoyed or you may cry over just the dumbest stuff. It may come as a surprise the first time but after that you'll be able to tell.

I was 12, but for about a year beforehand I had horrible nausea. (Then again, I had a horrible PE teacher, too.) The period itself showed up out of the blue, really. No warning sign, I just went to the bathroom and was kinda stunned.
Keep some pads in your bag and try not to worry too much. In my opinion, it's better to be later than earlier. I don't know how girls whose periods kick in at 8 manage.
You should definately talk to your mom, a sister, etc. Their experiences can help you get an idea of when yours should start. 12 is a normal time but I thought it was late at the time. Developing is really weird until it gets going--you always wonder if there's something wrong with you.
To make sure there isn't, talk to your family doctor. It's possible that you have another condition that's delaying things, like being over or under weight, a hormonal problem, thyroid, etc. After a certain age they start asking when your last period was anyway, which is a good time to say "Actually, I haven't. And I'm kinda worried about that."
Odds are, you're fine. It just takes a while. Again, take advantage of the freedom of it. Go swimming this summer!!!

If I'm reading your question correctly, it sounds like you haven't had your period yet at all. As far as I know, there are no "warning signs" for your first period, but you can get it from around age 13 to age 19. By the way, I remember before I got mine and I wanted to get it SO much because it would make me a "woman" and it would be so great. Take it from me, it's nothing but a pain in the ***. If you haven't gotten it yet be happy for the time you have left. And don't be in too much of a hurry, once you get it you'll have it every month until menopause, which (I'm guessing here) is around 60 or so.

Well.. If you are talking about your very first one, I think it surprises you.. I was 14, Much older than my friends. I had no signs.. but I was old enough that I always had something to be prepared. Count your blessings.. for you to be asking this question, time is coming, and at least you wont be scared or anything. You wil already have lots of info.

Hi...old...kinda....um You will know when you start feeling achy all over. If you gets cramps in your in your lower belly, and some girls get a dark discharge one or two months before they actually start. If your Mom is around you really need to talk to her, if she is not you need to find a trusted female in your life to sit down and talk with you sweetie. Good luck to you.

I usually get a bit nauseous and have slight abdominal cramps about twenty-four hours before I start. I also have a harder time sleeping around that time.
