well, first of all they can't get themselves pregnant or catch an STD from themselves, so right there it's safer. Secondly, boys don't have all the "our bodies are dirty" hang ups that girls do for some reason. It's just part of them, it feels good, they do it. End of story really. And maybe they don't want to waste their time with a girl they really don't like or care about and would rather just finish the business that way alone than put up with some harpy girl when he's waiting for the RIGHT girl to come along.
