If I have to get up from my desk to go get somthing, would it cost less to leave my light on only for a few seconds until I get back, or to turn it off and turn it back on when I get back?

Let me tell you this. Incandescent light bulbs have a life expectancy that is shortened by turning them on and off.

Lights that are left on will last longer (more hours) then those turned on and off.
