What Does Consecrated Mean

the word basically means to 'set apart for God' in the sense that something or someone who is consecrated is being put aside for God. A nun is a consecrated religious, she gives her life to Christ living in service of the Church and her community. I chalice is a consecrated item. It is only to be used during mass to hold the blood of Christ. If you were to take a chalice that is consecrated for use in mass, and were to use it as a drinking glass for milk or whatever, that would be a sin because the chalice has been 'put aside for God' In the Catholic Church there are different types of consecration. There are some consecration prayers that you can pray for yourself. I'm sure if you do a search for something like 'Consecration prayer to Jesus' you'll find something. You can even make one like like; 'Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place my life in your hands. I desire to dwell within the depths of your merciful heart. All I have and all that I am I entrust to your will, within your tender hands I lay my life, may your wounds cover my sins and your love perfect my heart so that your Sacred Heart may be reflected in my heart.' A prayer like that consecrating yourself to the Heart of Jesus could be prayed every morning, once a week, once a month, once a year.. whatever. When you re-pray the prayer your renewing your consecration in the sense that your reaffirming that you place your life in God's hands from time to time, which is a good thing, to be reminded of our commitments. In The Catholic Church, the religious: nuns, monks, priests... receive a consecration at the time they take their vows or make their promises. These consecrations take part in a ceremony presided by either a bishop (for priests) or a community superior (for monks or nuns... which can also be done by a bishop depending on the community)

Promised to,committed to, devoted to following the way of God by the example given by Jesus Christ. Your parents must have loved you very much for by giving you this name also wanted to make sure that your soul will always be safe and that you'd be always protected by God. Be sure and thank them.---
