THE MILWAUKEE CLIPPER IS SEVEN YEARS OLDER THAN THE TITANIC. RECENTLY IT WAS BROUGHT BACK TO ITS HOME PORT IN MUSKEGON, MICHIGAN. IT HAS BEEN NAMED AN HISTORIC LANDMARK AND IS BADLY IN NEED OF REPAIR. IT WILL COST 5 MILLION DOLLARS TO REPAIR HER ENGINE. VOLUNTEERS ARE THE ONLY HOPE FOR IT'S COMPLETE RESTORATION. WE CAN'T GET ANY GOVERNMENT GRANTS BECAUSE OF THE WAR. THE ONLY MONEY THAT GETS PUT INTO IT IS FROM THE TOURS AND DONATIONS. I RECENTLY TOURED THE MILWAUKEE CLIPPER AND I LITERALLY FELT I WAS WALKING THROUGH TIME. THE ORIGINAL DANCE FLOOR IS STILL THERE AND MOST OF THE FURNITURE IS ORIGINAL.

More info and a lot more in the URL. (Including Pictures)

In 1997 the Great Lakes CLIPPER Preservation Association was formed, dedicated to preserving the now legendary steamer. Able to gain ownership, on December 2, 1997, the group returned the MILWAUKEE CLIPPER to Muskegon, after an absence of 20 years.

Today, through the efforts of volunteers, the "Queen of the Great Lakes" is being lovingly, and painstakingly, restored to her former glory, to be preserved as a living museum for many generations to come.
