They charge you $12 a month without your knowledge. They ask for your info to do a 'free' credit check and then bill you without your knowledge or consent. I want my money back. Anyone have more info about this, please help!

In the case of this, and every other service like this, its important to realize: NOTHING IS FREE. The free credit report you obtained had a caveat in the microscopic print at the bottom. It probably said something like: "You are agreeing to subscribe to our service for xxx dollars per month, etc." They usually give you the option of cancelling any time prior to 30 days, and then make it extremely difficult to cancel.

IF you decide to go with one of these services, (or something similar in the future) Here are some steps you can do to protect yourself:

1) READ! If it looks too good to be true.. it probably is.
2) If there is a 30 day period in which you can OPT OUT, then use it if you want. When you do that, you usually must write to them, (telephone calls are often to numbers that don't work, etc), and tell them. If you write, then keep a copy of the letter, and also send the letter certified mail, return receipt requested. Make sure you send the letter so that it arrives BEFORE the deadline.

Although you claim the charge is without your knowledge, I highly doubt this is so. I would cancel the service, tell them I want no further charges, (see instructions above) and then watch your credit card statement closely for any charges after they receive your letter. THOSE you can dispute with your credit card company.

I had to go to my bank and get them to do it. It took about a month, but I did get the money back.
