well im gonna be a sophmore this year and practice will be starting in about a week and i have been dreading it the whole summer. Well i mentioned to my mom i was considering quitting football and she simply said "you not quitting". Well i was captain of the 7th and 8th grade teams that both went undeafeted but my freshman year i didnt make captain and are team has been falling apart ever since. There's only about 6 sophmores left on the team down from about 20. I know the coach wants me to play and my parents and my grandparents all want me to but I'm the only one that wants to quit(all my friends but one have quit the team). Well i was recently caught with weed and i think thats way my mom wont let me quit (she was actually talkin about sendin me to the army). but i really dont want to play, its just not fun any more, everyone takes it WAY to serious and it takes all the fun out of it....

You're only in high school once. I almost quit senior year and I couldn't be more glad that I didn't. If you were captain a couple years ago, obviously you have some ability so it would be a shame to squander it. In 6th grade my team won one game, but it was still a blast to be out there playing a great sport with my friends. Plus you haven't really given any reasons for wanting to quit, other than the fact that you smoke pot and probably need to study more given how the quality of your writing. Just kidding. But seriously. If you're basing your opinion on freshman year, than you're dumber than I thought. Of course freshman year sucks, it's called paying your due, playing scout team, and being a human tackling dummy. But you develop as a player and gain more experience as you continue to play. And by the time you get to be an upperclassman, of course it's fun, because you're bigger and can play varsity and hit people. If you're not having fun, it's either because you suck or have a bad attitude. My high school coach was a complete moron, but I just didn't let it affect me. Basically, my advice is for you to man up, quit smoking pot, and don't be a pansy by quitting football.

I have just started coaching high school football, and i think you should give it another chance, with a little change of heart. Not only will you look back on your experience and see how much playing a team sport helped your mental and physical growth, it can prepare you for your future, whether it be in a leadership role, or just learning to work with others as a team. One of the things i miss most, is my time spent playing high school sports. They can teach you many life lessons.

If your heart isn't in it, you probably wouldn't be any good for the team.
If your Mom caught you with "weed", you are going down the wrong path.
You need to find something else constructive, something that you are really interested in to keep you busy.
If you are a sophomore, I don't think you are old enough to go into any branch of the service. But, there ARE military schools, or Boarding schools that she can send you to at any time.
Not to sound too harsh, but you need to get it together. You're only two years from graduation ! After that, the world is yours. Don't mess that up by getting involved with drugs.

IF I had that mentality I would never of been a 2 time all stater. Just bite your lip suck it up and get ready for the season. You need to show your coaches you want to be a leader. If you dont love the sport then leave it behind. The thing with Football it should be serious in preporation BUT the creation of the team and the game should be serious but a little fun. Football is a passion game the more passion you have the more fun it will be.

Consider this your time to shine. Maybe with your leadership, confidence and abilities the team could make the playoffs and you could be Captain. Sometimes smoking pot makes you unmotivated and I'm sure your mom is concerned that this is the case. Ultimately it is your decision but do not do it because all of your friends did it. Playing and practicing should be fun and you could make it that way if you tried, be a leader, you'll be glad you did. I would be really interested in what you decide, either way.

first off your mom can only send you to military school, not the army.
Second, I think you have to ask yourself if it'll take you anywhere, or rather, in the direction you want to go.
Third, well, im a jerk, and i hate football, what i would do is play it anyway and always come home really depressed and mope around but not really say anything. then when my parents ask what's wrong tell them what you think.

That's sad that your family can't see that you're not happy with playing anymore. Can you quit on your own or do you have to have parental approval to quit? I think if you're not happy, then yes you should quit. Some people just grow out of sports they once loved. Have you told your mom that you are not happy anymore with playing?

If you really don't want to do it, don't.
People will probably be upset with you, but they'll get over it.
It's not good to do something your heart isn't in anymore. You don't want to be miserable.
