it depends on where u live in ill....i'm from chicago (best place in mid-west to be!!...i've lived in bloomington (when i went to college) which is 2 hours southeast of chicago in central ill...i've also lived in carbondale (my freshman year in college) which is 4 1/2 hours from chicago at our most southern tip of ill....i can tell you that the closer to chicago the better....most places outside of chicago are a little dead...dont get me wrong, springfield, bloomington, champain (what we call central ill) all are decent places to raise a family...but nothing beats chicago area!...hopefully you're moving within 1 hour of chicago....here are some websites that will give you great info on the lifestyle here...really explre these sites....the city of chicago site has all kinds of info and links to teach you all about cultural fun things that everyone should know about.....the tribune page (one of our large newspapers here) is always filled with things that can be useful....and the metromix page will give you tons of info on nightlife..... welcome to ILL!!

I moved to Illinois 5 years ago. The biggest shock is the cost of living. Living IN Chicago is outrageous, the suburbs aren't much better.

There's a lot to do, especially if you're willing to drive into Chicago and spend the day. But there's a lot to do out in the suburbs, too. To the north is Six Flags over Great America, there's always pro baseball and basketball games, or some concert coming to the city, or a festival going on.

Get used to sitting in traffic! Either that, or take the train.

There is life outside of Chicago contrary to what the other guy says. It depends on where you are moving to in Illinois. I grew up in a small community south of Chicago. There's always county and state fairs to go to, state parks, go to Springfield and Salem to see the Abraham Lincoln exhibits.
