Hmmm... phasers. I can't for the life of me remeber how things worked in Star Trek weapons life. It's some kind of energy weapon, but the weapons could be set to stun or to kill. I imagine that the phasers use some kind of electrical discharge that can either damage neurological systems or cause material destruction, so building a phase would require some kind of directed magnetic field that can propel the electrical charge without causing it to disperse into surrounding matter. Wizards of the Coast d20 Future explains in detail some common science fiction tech, but I don't think it mentions phasers, per say.

OH! A REPLICA! All you do is take a remote control for your TV, break one end of it, put the two ends together at a small angle, put a small plastic dish over the top, and put a huge red light at the front. Maybe use some kind of pressure switch so that when you squeeze it it projects a beam of light like a laser pointer. alternatively, I'm pretty sure they sell toy phasers in toy stores or online.

build a time machine out of a delorean and go into the future to the 25th century and steal one from the star ship enterprise. then come back to the present time, put some pants on, get a job, get a life, read the newspaper, and become a productive citizen of society.
or, alternatively, buy a taser or stun gun and just write the word 'phaser' on it with a magic marker.

They make a model of the phaser if you can still find one.
