I'm from Virginia originally, and I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that all Virginians (whether from the beach, mountains, DC area) are the nicest people ever. Virginia is for lovers, you know. :)

When you say south, do you mean the VA Beach area, or the area in the center of the state, just above North Carolina? Beach people tend to be friendly, but a little standoffish. They're used to tourists, so they have a habit of hiding their "true selves" because...well, I don't know why really. Once you get to know them, they open up and are great! If you mean south as in right above NC, they're very friendly, open, welcoming, sort of country-ish (but in a good way!) and kind.

When I was a livin in Virginia Beach some years ago, those folks were very kindly to me. Very kind indeed. Made me feel real welcome and family like. Now the military influence in that particular area does cause some variety. The born and raised are what I am speakin of.
