How is that some people can get it going and others can't?

Obviously I am one of those who can not.

It's actually more in how you start it circling - don't go too fast and hard or your hips won't be able to keep pace and it will drop immediately. Just give it a gentle swing and move your hips with the rhythm.

Secret To Hula Hooping

2017-01-12 07:39:15 · answer #2 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

It is all in having a waist. I never had a waist as a toddler
Even to my teens I kind of had my round tummy.
So its fun to watch those who can. I kind of wanted a waste belt or a form to hold up the hoop in a way. I hear it is the ring of a barrel and kids just started putting it around like a lasso or hoop for play. Hula by the dance in Hawaii with the grass skirt. I hear the soldiers saw the Korean kids play with them. It has many origins. U just keep feeling good about yourself. I can do my arm and lower leg well. I still like hooping.

Step 1. Keep your feet shoulder width apart
Step 2. Give the hoop a good push eith clockwise or counter clockwise.
Step 3. Slightly rotate your hips along the direction of your push
Step 4. Let the momentum do the work.

the hoops should be the right size for your waist.... it's hard to hula when you have small hoops.... perfect timing of hips swaying :D

LOL Chickie, you're not the only one!!! I got my little girl a hoola-hoop and she stood there looking at me expectantly, waiting for me to show her how to use it properly. Naturally the darned thing swung around my waist once and then collapsed at my feet! Your question intrigued me, so I actually looked this up on the Net to see if there were actually instructions on how to do the confounded thing!

And here you are:

When I do it I can go on and on, until my friend's little brother knocks it off my hips... Anyway, when you start you want to swing it around your body and get your hips moving. What works for me is I step on one foot repeatedly, if you know what I mean.

You don't want to move your hips from side to side. You want to move them from front to back.
