Alarm is the best. My service costs about $65 a month and includes fire and air pollution monitoring also.

Unless you have a professionally trained killer dog - dogs won't protect your home. Bars and gates also work, but not everyone house is designed in such a way that you could put up a front fence and bars scare me cause what there is a fire and you can't break out of the window.

Okay first you need good locks, not just door locks (the ones with a key) ones for when your at home, like a chain lock. The only ways burgulars can get it is through the doors or windows, so reinforce or get new ones, get locks and maybe a dog. Talk to your town hall about a neighborhood watch program. If all else fails and you still feel scared get a alarm system but they cost a lot and only work if you set them.

ALWAYS lock the doors and windows. Never let your guard down. My house is wired for an alarm but I don't have it installed. I've had bad experiences with home alarms before. I have an alarm door stopper in my front door and all it takes is a 9volt battery. I trust it.

The police officer who responded to the first false alarm on our brand new $2000 security system said, with annoyance, "I wish people knew a dog works better than anything else."

We now have two dogs, and they're both more bark than bite, but they sure do let us know if anyone's in the neighborhood, much less trying to get in. They're more fun than the alarm people, too.

just be careful if you get a gun, learn how to use it properly, if you don't already know how. you'll probably never need to use it, but its good to have it anyway, if its completely out of children's reach. You can't be too careful with it.

A mote. With alligators. And piranha.

Try two dogs. One little yappy one and one with great big teeth.
