Federal law states that a prescription is valid for 1 year after it is written.
However, with controlled drugs (especially the narcotics) it is up to the professional judgement of the pharmacist on whether the prescription should be honored or not. Typically (this is what I do and most pharmacists I work with do), we will honor the script within a month without question, and if later would call the prescribing doctor to verify it.

No, once a perscription is issued you can immediately take it to a pharmacy and have it filled. As a matter of fact a lot of people need their meds that fast.

depends on the medication, controled substances have to be filled in a certain time frame. medications like ritalin and adderal have to be filled with in 7 days of date prescribed

1 year from the date the prescription was written. All medications. narcotic, non-narcotic. 1 year from the date the prescription was written. FACT
