First off.......lemme say that a woman that wants to ride her own bike is HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now that that's out of the way.........I would say that if you can reach the ground and feel comfortable on it.......go for it.
And don't worry about what that dude said about getting respected more if you ride a Harley.......... that's a load of BS. My first bike was a Honda Rebel 250 (I'm a dude)......... I got just as much respect then as any other bike I ride. There are pretty much 2 categories.......People that ride (respected).........and people that don't ride (still respected, but not as much).
Just do what makes you comfortable, and congrats on your decision to get a bike..........
DAMN that's HOT!!!!!!!!!!

The main thing is "when you sit on the bike both feet are flat on the ground" That is how you can tell if you fit the bike.My daughter took a friend to look at a 450 suzuki and she bought it .She can't ride it confidently cause her feet don't touch the ground. This was a yr ago and now she wants to sell it

My wife rides a 750 Honda Shadow ACE, and loves it. She's short, also and has no problems with it.

Motorcycles are cool...cars are deadly. The only 'safe' motorcycle is a dirtbike...off road...away from cars... If you ride a bike on the surface roads your invisible. at some point some driver will come into your lane and leave you no options...maybe you'll make it ...maybe you won't
