No. The television is not capable of hurting anyone. Its the crap that parents let their children watch. My goodness...why can't people take responsibility for their own shortcomings anymore. Its always someone/thing else's fault.
And for some reason people cannot distinguish reality from televised entertainment so the way they rationalize is askew

Television is not inherently a bad thing, but too much of the content nowadays is not appropriate for especially young children. Too many moms, dads and other adult caretakers use television as a convenient baby-sitter, when it should be viewed with parents so that they can address questions their children might have as they watch. It can then be used as a teaching tool: a means to generate curiosity, an instrument to help build rapport between parent and child, and a device to provide both information and entertainment to help socialize children to the world around them

I would strongly encourage you to visit Jim Trelease's web site. He is the author of "The Read-Aloud Handbook," a compelling, easy-to-read guide for adults that extols the virtues of reading aloud to children. He also provides a convenient treasury of books that you can read to children. You can read excerpts from the book at his site (the second link below). Chapter eight is about television and its impact on children and reading. But I encourage you to pick up a copy from your local library, or better yet, buy one. The sixth edition was realeased to the public today (hooray!).

No.. not more than we traumatize them. Parents are responsible for their own kids. A big grey box-- a TV-- isn't your kids guardian. You are. TV, in moderation and with age-appropriate shows-- is harmless.

Of course, kids must have a realistic world view before watching TV. If they are anti-social and know nothing about the world, they might assume that life is like Laguna Beach, Sweet Sixteen, etc. However, if they've stepped foot outside their door and been taught by their parents 'morals' and expectations, TV isn't a huge problem.

Television is providing a distorted view of the world, so people are not aware of much of what is actually happening versus what they think is happening based on how television portrays things.

If this is your homework, it might help to actually research this issue. There are many excellent resources online.

Not if the parents actually payed attention to what they watched. I would have been freaked out if I had seen hard core violence in shows like "The Shield", or the blood and gore that is in certain episodes of CSI. But that's why those shows are on after 9. It is no reason to take them away.

It won't traumatize them, yet, reckoning on their a protracted time, it does not set a solid occasion. below college-age, i does not hassle approximately it. yet while they are in school, somewhat by using the age of 10 or so, he particularly needs to diminish that out. the two your sons will think of it is okay to easily grab issues, or your daughters will think of they'd desire to be happy with boys only grabbing them. of direction, young ones are going to often see something that wasn't meant for them...despite if it won't be seen in many cases. Insist that your husband be much less grabby while the youngsters are around. If he does, then advantages him with greater grope time while the youngsters are in mattress or long gone.

Yes it is and I would know as of being a child myself, we kids do get into television to much and then that's all that we want to do so if you ask me turn the t.v. off and tell your kid to do something else or like the rest of us they may become lazy and do nothing else but sit on the couch and watch t.v.

I don't think so, I think it is desensitising them, for example; Silence of the Lambs, i watched it with my mother and she was telling me that when it came out people where leaving the cinema they found it that disturbing, I didn't find it to be that bad. People who have grown up watching TV or have been exposed to the media, are totally desensitised. We accept war, violence and the things we see around us to be normal (we are no longer wrapped in cotton wool). This has occured since the Vietnam era when the media showed what they wanted, with out being to censored.
