has it got a serial number? start with that and the manufacturer. they may tell you what gun store it went to. if they know who bought it, suggest they contact the buyer and give the buyer YOUR name and number. you may run into a dead end. if it's been used in a crime contacting the police ought to been done with care, negotiate amnesty before handing over the firearm. you may not get it back, but you should stay out of jail, if you cooperate. are you sure you want to know? at least brand new pistols have no priors. :-)

barflydice's advice about contacting the manufacturer is good. I wonder why he assumes the gun was used in a crime.
