No. Surgery should only be used for those who are morbidly obese and need to take it off for medical reasons. It is not a cure all, I have several friends who have had it done and after a few years they have started putting the weight back on and not slowly either. They went through all that for what? It is risky and unnecessary. You still have to diet, small portions, eat right. If you have to do it then you can do the same thing now and take it off. I know a woman who died from having this surgery and I know she did not expect that and neither did her children.

There are so many factors before you could even get that surgery. For one you have to be at least 100 pounds over weight, you have to have proof that you have tried other weight loss methods. You have to get approved for it through your insurance company....good luck! And on top of that you have to go through about 6 months of tests to make sure you can handle something like that. My dad just had it done, yes I am relieved he did it because he was to the point that his obesity would have killed him. This surgery isn't for someone who is just alittle overweight and it is not something you take lightly. You have to change your entire life for this to work and even still there are risks to it.

Research very carefully, and understand ALL the risks. I just heard that a very large percentage of people (over 50%) have serious complications after, including another major surgery. I think the intensive questioning upfront, plus the doctor experience may help, but be VERY careful.

Some should if it is proven to be a genetic issue. Some people just can't loose weight no matter how hard they try. However, there are some that are just to lazy to try so surgery is just an easy alternative. This makes insurance prices higher for the rest of us. There are very few people who honestly have a genetic issue, the rest are just lazy.

You can only get surgery if you are a certain amount of pounds overweight. It seems like a personal choice to me.
