Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin are both among the world's biggest bands.
Greater album:
Pink Floyd's biggest album is Dark Side of the Moon (1973). It sold 40 million copies worldwide (15 million in US alone) and is one of the best-selling albums ever. It also spent a record-breaking 14 years on Billboard 200 after hitting #1. Some 250,000 copies of the album is sold every year.
Led Zeppelin's biggest album is Led Zeppelin IV (1971). It sold 22 million copies in US alone (the 3rd best-selling album nationwide, despite never reaching #1); the worldwide total is more than 30 million.
It seems like Pink Floyd has the biggest album.
Greater song:
Pink Floyd's biggest hit was "Another Brick in the Wall (part II)", from The Wall. The hit single reached #1 in both US and UK charts in 1980. It is also partially responsible for the album 15-week stay atop Billboard 200. The Wall is the second biggest Pink Floyd album and the world's best-selling double album, with over 25 million copies sold worldwide (11.5 million in US).
Led Zeppelin's biggest song is "Stairway to Heaven", from Led Zeppelin IV. Although never released as a single, it is constantly recognized as the best song in rock and roll and is one of the all-time most requested songs in US radios. It is also the best-selling sheet music ever, with over one million copies sold.
Led Zeppelin seems to be the winner here.
Greater band:
Led Zeppelin was the undisputed biggest band of the 70s. Pink Floyd built its career since the late 60s; it reached its peak in late 70s, when Led Zeppelin's career was reaching its end.
Led Zeppelin sold over 100 million albums in US, being the second best-selling band nationwide. Five of its albums were certified diamond for sales of over 10 million copies each. It also had 7 number one albums in US. Pink Floyd sold over 70 million in US, has two diamond albums and 5 number one albums. But Pink Floyd sales are bigger overseas: they both have worldwide sales of around 200 million copies.
They both were incredible live bands and sold out entire tours. Zeppelin tours used to gross as much as some countries GDP back in the 70s. Floyd's latest tour, The Division Bell, in 1994, grossed an amazing US$ 250 million and became the world's biggest tour so far (until it was beaten by the Stones).
Led Zeppelin is the biggest hard rock band ever and influenced most of hard rock and heavy metal bands and many pop artists; Pink Floyd is recognized as the biggest progressive rock band ever and its influence is also huge. Zeppelin was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995 and Floyd in 1996. Both are recognized as two titans of rock.
It is hard to say which band is the biggest and more recognized. Led Zeppelin probably has a bigger following in US, but Pink Floyd seems to be more popular in Europe. I would say they both are equally big.
What is the greater one? It's like asking who's bigger, Mozart of Beethoven? They're both giants in classical music, just like Floyd and Zeppelin in rock and roll. To say one is greater than the other is just a matter of opinion.

There isn't even a question about it, Pink Floyd has a better everything compared to Zeppelin. Don't get me wrong, I love Zeppelin too, but with maybe the exception of the last two Floyd albums, Zeppelin only came close twice, Houses of the Holy and Led Zeppelin IV. Song wise, I'll take Dogs, Wish You Were Here, Fearless, Echoes, Pow R Toc H, and Comfortably Numb over Stairway to Heaven, Thank You, D'yer Maker, Over the Hills and Far Away, Dazed and Confused, and Black Dog any day of the week. More recognized, it has got to be Floyd. If for no other reason Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall are two of the best selling albums of all time. They are both great in their own ways, and for different reasons, but Pink Floyd takes the prize on a head to head competition.

led zeppelin had more great albums than pink floyd, LZ has greater songs, I would say pink floyd is a little more recognized though because they are more commercial and "another brick in the wall" is one of the most well known songs ever

uhhh tough one really is but here goes
1.album- dark side of the moon
2.song- echoes(or take your pic from any dark side songs)
3.recognized on tv, radio, internet, magz? pink floyd no doubt
4.sold most albums? geez so hard the early zep sold a lot but their later efforts didnt and left much to be desired, floyd came out with smashers evrytime with a barret led floyd they had piper at the gates dawn and relics under waters echoes, dark side, wish u were here, division bell, the wall....
5.tour- another split i think, tho in the 70's i prefered floyds lazer light shows and crazy imaginary images wich they took to another level in the 80's and early 90's, no doubt floyd in the 70's took concerts to another level
led zeppelin with all due respect ive always said are the greatest little band to make it, their music isent timeless or unique many bands were harder than them or bluesyer than them, but bands like the beatles and floyd stand well against the forces of time and i think this has been proven today!

Damn! Hard choice. I'd have to say zeppelin 4 b/c it has stairway to heaven which btw is the greatest song ever along with black dog, rock n roll, the battle of evermore and other classic rock essentials. Pink floyd still has two awsome songs in another brick in the wall, parts one and two.

Houses of the Holy by Led Zeppelin is one of the greatest with Stairway to Heaven probably the best song ever on it. I like Pink Floyd too and they are great, but got to go with Led Zeppelin on this one. Great question about legendary bands, thanks!
