I have a very good female physician who totally understands the disconcertiveness that women experience when having PAPS. The test itself is very simple- however the process and the size of the instruments can intimidate. A good doctor will talk you through the process, have warmed instruments and will be very gentle with you. Once the speculum is inserted - it's there only to open the vagina and keep it open so that the swabbing can be done to the uterus. The swabbing is only a long "q-tip'. A couple of washes and the speculum is released and removed. A good doctor will provide you tissues or other cleansing material to use. My doctor is wonderful and it never hurts.

It's a good idea to go to a Women's Clinic, they tend to be pretty sensitive about administering the Pap Smear.
What's great is speculums come in different sizes both plastic & medal. The medal ones are heated up before inserting into the vagina. If the nurse or Doc is gentle when the speculum is opened, you should be fine. The pap smear itself can be a little uncomfortable & you may bleed a few drops.

No, they have warmers and now, plastic speculum's which are warmed and as well sized to fit you perfectly, it doesn't hurt....Even when they do the test itself its just a tiny little scratching feeling its not uncomfortable...

it depends on the dr and the size of the speculum. ive had rough drs that used big speculums, and ive had gentle drs who used little speculums.

it doesnt hurt, but it may be uncomfortable. it definitely isnt the most pleasant experience but i wouldnt go so far as to say it 'hurts.' you just feel some pressure and maybe a bit of stretching discomfort when it is inserted and opened up. if you do feel pain, let your practitioner know and they can adjust as necessary.

It doesn't hurt, but it is uncomfortable. But it is so much better than the alternative. It's not fun, but it's worth it.
