I want to learn a musical instrument and I am debating between Guitar and Drums. If it were you, which would you learn first?

Without a doubt, I'd go for drums. I know Guitar is all showy and stuff, but drums are more awesome, and drum's really carry the pace of the song. I'm saying this as a bass freak though. But the thing is guitar is easier to transport and move, and the cheapest guitar and amp are like 3 or 4 times cheaper than the cheapest decent drum set/kit. Drums are in almost every genre, or drumming, guitar is generally limited to rock and music with rock elements.

I'm a drummer, so I'll say drums, but another idea is bass, which I also play now. Bass is practically a mix between the two because it combines keeping the time with the drums with playing a harmony with the guitar. Or banjo. Stringed instrument that vibrates a drum.

I play some guitar, but it's my least favorite instrument. Although just strumming simple chords can be real fun sometimes.

I play both drums and guitar. Both are very cool and can be very impressive with little practice. I would say that guitar is much harder seeing as how there are 22 frets 6 strings, scales to memorize, and soloing can become quite complicated. Drums can, i suppose, be equally as hard, but you dont need as much experience to do a simple beat as you do to play a simple song on guitar. Despite al this, I would recommend guitar, because, for one, the girls love it. It's much more portable than a drum set. When recording becomes an issue, guitar is easier to record than drums. Actually, though, I would tend suggest learning both. Some may argue that you should devote your time to one craft, but you become much more appealing when you try to join a group if you know more than one.

DRUMS... Definetly. But, if you are looking to play rythms go for a guitar. They are both amazing. But, you have to think about what fits you most, not what Yahoo Answers tells you to do. Think "can I picture myself rocking out on the drums or the guitar". There are different types of ppl, and some are meant to be guitarists, some are meant to be drummers, some are meant to be bassists, and everyonce in a while an amazing clarinet player comes along.... So pick whatever is right for you, whether it be drums, guitar, or the clarinet.

Guitar, in my opinion it is simply a much more complete instrument than drums.

drums. if you learn drums first, you will know rythyms for later and make the guitar easier.

Think about it this way. How many times would you hear, "Hey, bring your guitar?" Now, how many times will you hear, "Hey, bring your drums?" End of discussion.
