Veterinary Technician is a good job. It's just a 2 year program. That's what I have a degree in. There are plenty of jobs that don't require schooling, but can be taught while working there. Animal shelters and such. Dog groomers don't have to have a lot of schooling either.
Most well paying jobs with animals, other than techs, will take you at least 4 years, if not more.
Oh, and most zoo's won't hire a keeper unless they have a bachelor's degree in a biology related field now a days. I looked into that once.

I agree...jobs with animals are very hard work and the pay usually is not that much. Grooming pays pretty good...I've known some that have made between 50-100 grand a year grooming in a high income area. All depends on where you live and what kind of salon you have/work for and your grooming skills.
The schooling isn't that long, but it is one of those life long learning careers...always something new to learn in this business. And not all dogs are cooperative and well mannered.
But, it's very rewarding, and I would never quit doing it.

You can become a care giver at a zoo with a associate degree. You work with the animals and clean the cages, feed and that sort of thing. It is not as in depth as a zoologist but looks like a good career if you like animals.

I am a vet assistant.I got all of my training on the job. Ask around for any clinicsor animal shelters that might need help, you may have to volunteer first or work in the kennel until you get some experience

Well, you can be a Vet Tech in 2 years in many schools...although I do not recommend it. The pay is crappy and the hours long. Working for vets is not a lot of fun. They are frequently cheap and crabby!!!!!
Dog grooming often stinks too!!! Breaks your back, you get carpal tunnel from the clippers, you get bitten, scratched, pooed and peed on. Many jobs with animals pay low and are hard work.

Think twice!!!!!!!
