Your Dr. is partially right. When you have a pulled muscle and it is in spasm, heat will help it relax and allow you to stretch. ie warming up a muscle without doing any work. Now if this is an acute (fresh or new) injury, then ice would be your smartest move. If there is swelling and inflammation in the area, then ice would be your smartest move. It will reduce the amount of swelling and inflammation in the area.

I would also recommend getting evaluated by a chiropractor. He/She would be able to give you a biomechanical assessment as to why you were prone to pulling those msucles to begin with and correct any joint dysfunction should you have any.

oh gosh i did that a few days ago.

at first i thought my collarbone was broken.

but it wasnt. i just pulled the muscle..

what helps is leaning against it when you sit down! i just put a lot of pressure on it and it stopped hurting
