It's not looking good for them right now with the losses of Shanny and Stevie and Legace also. If they get a no.1 goalie and some decent size to replace Shanny, then they may be alright

Well, with Belfour now going to Florida things do look better. I have a feeling the Wings will get Martin Biron from Buffalo and as well as other players that are scheduled for arbitration hearings but there teams can't afford. Some names could be J.P. Dumont or Maxim Afinogenov. So I think they will be just fine.

As of today, the Red Wings look like a marginal team, will be in the lower/middle of the pack. Going to be a tough season in Hockeytown.

the glass is half-empty and half full on this question. what i mean is the changes they went through with legace not being re-signed, shanny abandoning the team for the new york rangers and yzerman retiring. they need to sign a center to help them score like shanny. they are weak now with shanny leaving and yzerman retiring. they will need to find a player with yzerman's motativation skills but unfortunately there are not too many players like him out there. glad to see that they did not sign belfour. he would not fit too well in detroit anyway . they have a young set of forwards in zetterberg and datsyuk who need to quit being lazy in the post season. they were the main reason for the first round flop. they peaked too early and never should have focused on being the best overall. anyway, on to defense: well, the defense is old and getting kinda weak. chelios should retire but he feels he can play a little longer as long as his health holds up. more power to him. fischer may never come back from his seizure incident. too bad about that. they are hurting from this. niklas kronvall is an up and coming defenseman for detroit. they need younger players to step up and take the wheel to win. as far as goaltending they need to quit wasting time considering old washed up has-beens like belfour. osgood won the cup, but has not been a superb goalie by any means. he is playoff proven but can let in some crappy goals. jimmy howard is an up and coming goalie who can win games and is qualified to stand out if given a chance to play. they could trade a few of these players for a better goalie to upstage ozzie. they are going to do alright and not be at the bottom becuz there too many crappy teams in their division. how well they play is depending upon goaltending, scoring and defense. i expect to see a ordinary team this season. not too keen on them standing pat on some of these free agents. overall, they are ok but i will wait to see if these factors will affect the team much. your best bet is wait until the regular season to see how they do against the better west teams.

The problem is they are NOT shaping up. Osgood in net--please!! But thank God we didn't get Belfour that would have been worse. They lost Stevie Y and Shanny. It is not looking good at all.

Fine by me as I'm a Nux fan. The Dead Things look done. Time to retool. I can't see Osgood '06/07 being the answer.

I'm not sure , if they don't bring in younger players, they will be call the dead things again, I don't want since I had lived through it once before. and it wasn't pretty. the only thing that had help them before was Probert with his fists but that 's no-no now in the NHL. (that had kept the game alive)
