Could be several things. The blue is average for an older car with some miles on it, if it's never been taken in for a tune up. What's happening is you are burning excessive oil. Could be your piston rings, or valves. If the white is a heavy amount, and constant, that can be a bad thing and you could have a bad head gasket.
Hopefully it's nothing to major, just drop in at a workshop and have it checked before it could grow into something worse than just a tune up.
And lastly, no they will no tcause your car to explode...LOL.

Well, your car probably has bad piston ring seals, you could check your spark plugs, and if they are discolored/ a blackish color, then oil is leaking through. And the smoke discoloration is a result of the oil burning up on the exhaust manifold. You could try using thicker oil/ synthetic oil, it could help seal the rings better. and the white is usually from a blown head gasket. That is fairly easy to fix, and doesn't cost that much to repair.

Is it a cheverolet? Most chevys do this. Its a puff of smoke for about 2 seconds when you start it right? Its probably valve stem seals and not worth fixing. Try lucas oil stabilizer available at most auto parts stores or BG's RF-7 only avail. through BG dealers. there should be hundreds of BG dealers near you. bgfindashop.com and put in your zip. Bg costs more but its sooooooooo worth it. (BG ~$15-$20 and Lucas is about $10 at the most.

USUALLY IT INDICATES THAT THE VALVE GUIDE SEALS ARE WORN, BUT THIS IS FAIRLY COMMON ON ANY ENGINE WITH > 50K ON IT. I HAVE A CAR WITH 261K AND IT HAS BEEN DOING THAT SINCE 182K. THE THING TO WORRY ABOUT IS EXCESSIVE OIL USE NOT A LITTLE BLUE SMOKE!!!!!!!!!!
