Dryer fires are very common, 1998 statistics say that there were 15,600 fires caused by dryers.

Clean out the lint trap!!! If that doesn't work, call a repair person to look at the dryer - there is probably something wrong with it. Check the outside exhaust duct and clear that. Use metal duct materials instead of plastic. We moved into an apt. once with plastic duct materials and the tube (about 18' long), was literally packed with lint. We replaced it all with metal and turned in the receipt to the landlord and got credit for it. On top of that we probably prevented a deadly fire.

Also, don't wash & dry clothing that has gasoline or other flammables in it. You could wash them by hand and hang to dry.

You maybe had a latex pillow and drying on a high heat could be too high of a setting for it. Use a cooler temp.

And never leave the house if the dryer is still running - better safe than sorry.

Rewash the clothes. Add vinegar to the rinse. Should work just fine. Clean dryer with vinegar water on a rag. Rinse.

You need to rewash your clothes out of the dryer in a cup of vinegar and a cup of baking soda. That I found to be the best remedy for taking odors out of clothes.

i heard charcoal can dispell odours in fridges and damp places like closets, cupboards etc. You can place these charcoals in a pair of clean socks or a bag so that it doesn't blacken the things around it.

wash them again... but don't dry them in that dryer until you clean the vents out and get all of the lint out of it... then put it on medium heat.... not high...
