That's not true! A white person does not HAVE to adapt, just as foreigners in America do not HAVE to adapt. But to fit in and not offend someone, they choose to.

Your question is very good. But I think you fail to see the reality of the U.S. If you're Caucasian you don't realize that everyone here is assimilating into Western culture whether they realize it or not. America is full of cultural bias and unfortunately the only people who understand that are part of the non majority. For example, the non white person that comes to America will have to learn English. The person will also have to adhere to cultural guidelines. For example, I know a person from Asia and it is usually acceptable in her culture to be 20 minutes late for a meeting. However, in America she is not allowed to be late to any meetings.

Finally, I will give you another example that has to do with my African-American cousin and hair school. My cousin took the state board examination for her license to work in a salon. At the test she was only required to perform things that would benefit a Caucasian women. However, my cousin primarily works with African-American hair which is totally different in texture. She would never perform any of the things on her clients yet she was tested on it. So please make sure that you are looking at things with an objective eye because America is not really geared toward anyone who is not Caucasian.

In all honesty there is no such thing as American culture according to race.We are a country based upon immagrants a taht is what makes us so great. Each and every one of us has the freedom to express ourselves in the US and we also have to except the concequeces.Asian culture is more conservative and less flexable than ours which is not really a bad thing.Traditon and honor should be preserved and just remeber to respect all cultures and practice sensitivity.....you will be rewarded

No one is asking the white person to adapt to the culture. It is not a requirement. When I was in India I didn't have to adapt to their culture. If you learn and respect the culture it will make it easier to get around.

Because most people here are so afraid they're gonna offend someone. Can't say this, can't say that! What happened to freedom of speech? People should be able to say whatever they want about someone without fear of repercussions! The country has bent over backwards trying to appease every different culture that we've forgotten who WE are and OUR rights are being stripped away!

Really? I've always found the opposite to be true. When a friend of mine went to Japan, she found that a lot of the natives didn't want to speak to her in Japanese; they insisted upon speaking English. The fact is, they typically refuse to believe that anyone outside of Japan can speak their language. Whereas when someone travels here without knowing English, they find it a lot harder to get around.

because culture is the most meaningful thing to them in their country. there are so many races and religions and cultures here that it would be hard for someone to choose anything but their own, or something similiar...i think its neat to learn how they act and respect certain things...it makes you think how grateful they are for the smallest things.

There are no White countries. There are Asian countries, Arab countries, Black countries, Mestizo countries, Israel, and multicultural cesspools, er... "hotbeds of diversity".
