I want to do something to make me stand out. I know some people have written a book, started a website that gets thousands of hits, etc... I don't know what I can do though. I'm not very good at writing though. I just need a single activity/accomplishment that will make me stand out, like maybe a fundraiser or something that raises several thousand dollars. But it needs to be big, something that takes a lot of time. The only thing I'm exceptionally good at is technology. I am very good at working with computers and fixing them, but this doesn't really help me with what I need.

It depends on what college you're applying to....some you are almost guaranteed to get into, others you will get in with ease with good grades. Others like Harvard, it's harder to get in to because they only accept a certain number each year.

There are two things you can put to work for you:
1. Your knowledge of computers
2. The fact that at least 98% of University employees are left wing extremist wackos.
If you can write up some kind of idea for a computer virus that would wipe out the computer systems at oil companies, car manufacturers, and the White House, they would offer you a full scholarship I'm sure.

if you are in high school try joining clubs and extra curricular activities including sports. colleges look for well rounded students so the more things you are involved with the better the chance you will get into the college. some colleges look mainly on any extras you've done to see how well you will represent their school
an obvious one is getting good grades and scholarships
since you seem to be great in technology find a course that you are interested in that involves computers like computer programming or something

do something that makes you you, you shouldn't do it just for college appsm you should do it because you think its the right thing to do and the least you can contribute to the world.
and if you are just thinking about it now, its probably too late cuz people who stand out did their thing since like middle school and some even elementary school!
a friend of my got into Stanford for piano... so anything works

Get good grades. They don't care, you could be a celebrity and they could care less. All you are to them is a number. If you don't have good grades then they don't care.
