Bill Of Rights is still alive in this country, it is all in how you interpret certain statements which were written hundreds of years ago.

OMG, did Bush really say that the Bill of Rights is only a piece of paper that no longer applies to America?? I think you could ask your last question to all politicians. How do you know that Republicans don't respect the founding fathers? Maybe some Democrats don't respect them either. I think you like that word NEOCONS. You sure do use it frequently. Have a great day.

People living in this country today throw the word "freedom" around as if they know what it means, but it's become an empty political buzzword. None had to fight for their freedom, so they take it for granted. The Bill of Rights, which was virtually sacred to our forefathers, is now considered expendable if there's anything to be gained politically. Any neocon would gladly surrender every right on the list except for the right to bear arms, just for the illusion of feeling safer. Make no mistake about it, it's an illusion. The number of terrorist attacks worldwide has INCREASED since the Iraq war began (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/04/26/AR2005042601623.html). Sure, there hasn't been another attack on American soil, but why make the trip when our troops are easier targets in Iraq and Afghanistan? So what do we gain, other than this illusion of safety? Little or nothing, but the government gains a lot. Every new victory over freedom brings cheers from ignorant voters who think anything that's bad for minorities must be good for "real" Americans. That translates into more votes and more power, which encourages them to do more of the same, and we find ourselves well on our way to becoming a fascist state (or already there -- http://www.rense.com/general37/char.htm). The Bill of Rights takes more hits with every step along the way. Freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of the press, freedom from unlawful search and seizure, and the right to a fair and speedy trial are all becoming casualties in the quest for power, and as they say, absolute power corrupts absolutely. I don't see any hope for democracy unless voters come to their senses and vote out the incumbents this fall.
----------------------------------------------------
For those of you who don't read the news and still need examples, here's the Bill of Rights: http://usinfo.state.gov/usa/infousa/facts/funddocs/billeng.htm, and here are the violations:
People have actually been arrested just for wearing anti-Bush t-shirts (Amendment I)
Republicans in Congress have been trying to pass the flag desecration act every two years (Amendment I). They're equally determined to pass the gay marriage ban (Amendment I and Amendment IX). The only reason these haven't passed is that they keep falling short of the required two-thirds majority.
The Patriot Act blatantly violates Amendments IV, V, VI, VII, and VIII.
I'm sure I could think of others, given more time, but that covers seven out of the ten, including some of the most vital ones.

What the hell are you talking about. What right from the Bill of Rights are you being denied. Most of you jackasses who ask this site the first but just the ability to ask the question you have right now shows you have that right. I would love to hear one right you libs are being denied that hasn't been hindered by some sort of civil rights group or Dem controlled senate comity. Really why not talk to you Chinese buddies and really see how bad you have it. God it's people like you that make this country a laughing stock to the rest of the world. Complain complain complain yet have no real ideas on how to fix anything except for lame jabs at the president and the always well thought out statements like "Any ones better than Bush"

Because it limits their power to control everyone and reach the goals that were laid out in their agenda. See the Project for the New American Century. All this was planned before 9/11....9/11 just allowed them to take advantage. Check out their website...it's all right there....I believe the words were something to effect of "in order to achieve this the US would need another Pearl Harbor type event".
George, on the other hand, has a hard time reading big words - that's his excuse.

Read the bill of rights. Read the Federalists papers. Then tell us which part of the bill of rights aren't being upheld by "neocons". How are the founding fathers being disrespected.
Please don't make statements and accusations with nothing to back up what your saying. I'm not saying your wrong, but I need something to work with. Thanks.
