Here are some REALLY good, and very inexpensive ways to treat most acne at home. Try each method (unless you’re allergic to the ingredients) until you find one that works best for you. Good luck =) BTW, I know some of these may sound bizarre but try them…what have you got to lose other than the acne!!

1. Put toothpaste on your acne before going to bed. (Make sure it is paste not gel). It should reduce the swelling of acne noticeably.

2. Dab egg whites on your acne and leave on for 20 minutes or overnight. It’s supposed to pull the infection out of the blemish.

3. Wash acne infected areas twice a day with warm salt water. This reduces oils in the skin and helps to dry the acne up without further agitation.

4. Use ice on acne before going to bed. This works best on pimples that have not yet formed a head. It reduces swelling and helps to prevent scarring.

5. Wash and dab acne with cotton balls that have been soaked in vinegar. Let dry; do not wash off immediately.

6. Place strawberries leaves over your acne and the alkalinity will help to reduce the swelling.

acne, like any other health problem is caused not just by what you do to your skin, but what goes into your body. you can try some natural remedies - such as rosewater - which i know have really help people i know. i also know people who've taken powerful prescription drugs, like accutane which has also helped, but has some bad side effects and is unhealthy... my best advice though, and what i do to have great skin is all about diet and exercise. I am careful to watch my consumption of foods that are linked to acne – white flour, sugar, alcohol and greasy dairy products – and exercise regularly – nothing cleans your pores out like sweating! When I’m done working out I use the dessert essence tea tree cleansing pads from trader joes to remove the dirt and bad stuff, then splash on a rosewater, or seaweed toner… try it, at least for a bit – I’m sure the diet stuff will work for you :)

I didn't use a system, but simply washing your face EVERY morning and evening with either Nutergeona (sp?) or Dove soap and wiping it with a Stridex pad after. This will dry you skin out very bad though, so be careful. I have tried the Proactive line and it works about the same, but there are so many things with that. Just get in a rythm and you'll be good.

Well, when I was growing up in the 70's and 80's, Accutane was the most effective drug out there for acne. I believe it was taken in pill form. Very potent. I believe that it has been linked to depression but don't quote me on that. I had bad acne as a teenager and young adult. I used Retin-A gel or cream. It is topical. Also, minocycline or tetracycline are used for bad cases of acne.

I agree with the others . Pro Active is the best. You just have to stick with it . And be aware it will make your skin red for about 2 days until your skin adapts to the benzol peroxide. Only use it on the affected areas. I know people who use it all over their face but that will dry your skin.

Pro active. You can get it on ebay cheap. If your worried about eating chocolate and drinking alot of soda in fear that your face will break out? It wont. It's a proven study. I don't like chocolate but alot of my friends do and they don't get acne.

Pro Activ works the best for me but you have to stay on it, if you stop one day...your face will break out worst than before the next day!
