I do not believe that it is inappropriate and it is beneficial to the child unless of course the mother is smoking, drinking, doing drugs etc. But it is considerate of others if the mother breast feeding puts a towel, blanket or whatever over herself in public. There are children out in public and depending on their ages would be asking alot of questions about it, and some parents would be answering those questions with bias opinions that could mess up a child's way of thinking about the situation. There are also women out there that do not believe that you should be baring your breast in front of their husbands. These kind of women really need a reality check but it happens just the same.
So for modesty sake and as to not cause children to ask questions..........Cover up.

I'm shaking my head as to k b's answer that it's rude to breastfeed in public.
It can be done discreetly - just use a blanket or a towel or what not to cover up. The women that freak about their husbands seeing another breast, they should just grow up. It's not like the breast is right in front of his face (literally) unless HE'S the one suckling on it...and well, that's wrong lol.
Why should a baby be deprived of food? Mothers with nursing babies shouldn't have to stay at home 24/7, they are entitled to leave the house and bring the baby with them as long as it's an appropriate place (ie, no bar or loud places or what not) for the baby.
People need to get over their own selfishness and think about what's best for babies. :)
PS - I nursed my son until he was 14 months old...as he got older (and on cow's milk and solid foods), it became more of a comfort thing at night, less public.

Breast Feeding is not inappropiate, it is the very best thing you can do for your self and your baby. I had three, Breastfeeding helps your stomach muscles contract back quicker and Breast feeding insures healthy nutriants for your Baby. My last one was born with heart complications, the Drs. told me that I accually gave him more of a chance when I breast fed him. Today he is an active 15 year old with out any more heart complications

i'm not sure what you are meaning by this question but no breastfeeding is not inappropriate. it is only natural and beautiful to know that women who do breastfeed care so much about their childs health....i know i have 3 children.breastfeeding should only be encouraged and respected

I don't think it's inappropriate unless it's done in a public place. Like a restaurant. I think that's extremely rude.

It isn't inappropriate. There is a place and time for everything. Sometimes you have to have respect for those around you.

I assume you mean "in public". I suppose its because women normaly dont expose their breasts in public, and breast feeding kinda puts it all out there.
