Get a Mac.
They have a built-in translation program.

Does this not constitute 'cheating' if you are taking a foreign language class?

I took an accelerated Spanish course and that was rough. I did not use any translation programs because I went to school to learn. Not because I 'had to'.

However, there are many many translation programs out there. Where have you looked so far?

A fair warning: when you test for proficiency in the foreign language of your choice, there will be no help from translation programs. For the language proficiency exam at the university I attended, I needed to write for twenty minutes straight, using a minimum of two verb tenses. I used past, future and subjunctive.

I wish you well on your studies!

Why do people seem to think that languages are so simple?People spend years learning, in order to master their chosen language.
For a person to reach the stage of being able to translate a whole text takes a huge amount of time, dedication and a feel for the language which i don't believe a computer program can achieve.

OK, you can translate a phrase or single words but try putting that together.

Sorry it's just hard work,if you don't want to take the time to learn french (which is OK) Then just send your text to someone who has (i.e a translator)

Hi mate,
If you have access to the internet I would use http://babelfish.altavista.com/ this handy tool can translate a block of text from english into many languages and back again, the text can be typed into the box or just copy and paste. There is also the option to translate an entire web page by putting the web address in to the appropriate text box... I hope this helps

For a rough translation to translate a few words or a short phrase, just use this website

http://babelfish.altavista.com/

It only works for individual words or phrases though. If you try to get it to translate entire texts it will make lots of mistakes. I don't think there are any programs that can translate entire texts very well, it just isn't possible because there are so many exceptions to rules in all languages that only a person can be taught, not a computer.

Im sure there is but I use free websites on the net while im doing homework sometimes

http://spell.imtranslator.com/try.html

http://www.freetranslation.com/

http://intertran.tranexp.com/Translate/result.shtml

http://babelfish.altavista.com/translate.dyn

There are also more here.... http://www.word2word.com/free.html

But you can type language translation software into ebay and with the results type some of the products into your favorite search engine and it should come up with websites of places that sell these programs.

try babelfish, there is a link on one of your other answers.

More usefully, put online translation into google and lots of free translation sites come up. They all have many languages, sometimes different but they all will have English and French

I recommend www.freetranslation.com because it is simple , free and it can translate English into languages like Norweign and Russian as well as French and common languages. HOWEVER apparently I read somewhere that you shouldn't rely on internet translators too much because they can sometimes be inaccurate. good luck.
