Yes, it is a male bachelor problem. As for the fabric softener & dryer sheets, I would quit using them altogether. They are so toxic and bad for you and they obviously aren't helping your particular towles. I agree with your getting new towels; the old ones will be perfect for polishing your piano.

Try using more than one fabric softener sheet in each load, and don't put more than a few ( towels ) in the dryer at a time.

Hmmm... do you have a water softener?
Your towels could become hard from hard water perhaps??
Some towels are made from softer fabric than others.... but if your towels were soft and became hard, that might be why.

Try putting dryer balls in with the towels. They can be purchased at Bed Bath & Beyond, Linens 'N Things or Wal-Mart. If you can't find any there, 2 tennis balls will work.

How hard is your water. Do you have a water softner. It may be you`re putting too much detergent in your wash and it isn`t rinsing them out good enough. Yes it happens to old towels. Go out and buy new ones and use the old ones for household chores and cleanups around the garage.
