ok, yahoo, dont fail me, did you people know that the whole witch hunting thing in the previos hundreds of years, they werent really hunting witches? the reason the hunts happened was there was a heavily crazy lady from the carribean, and told all the children bedtime stories.the wheat in the area was improperly stored, and the wheat grew a certain mold that if you ate it, id fry your brain, and the kids ate the tainted wheat and saw illusions of the crazy ladies stories, and the people thought that the kids could see things the other couldnt, so they killed whomever the kids saw as a witch....

There is a theory that LSD may have started the whole thing. Apparently under certain conditions (wet weather, humidity, etc.) the crop the village was growing became over saturated and developed mold. The mold produced Lysergic Acid (LSD) and those who still ate the crop began having hallucinations and acted quite strange. The village reacted in the manner we all know about. Historians were able to determine that weather conditions at the time were conducive to this mold growing process. There is a documented case of mold producing LSD on the same crop grown in Salem in 1950's France.

There was a kind of collective hysteria which seemed to develop among these young women, and there was a Caribbean slave who may or may not have had something to do with unsettling their minds. There is an area of Europe where essentially the wheat thing happpened to a whole town (ergot is the substance you are thinking of) and they all got sick and hallucinatory.
But did you also know, that there is evidence that certain persons took advantage of the hysteria in order to accumulate land that they wanted in the town of Salem. A study was done on this and I wish I could remember the author, but I can't.
Eventually a Puritan magistrate? or pastor? came along and ended the brutal ordeal.
I think the thing we can learn from this is that it is easy for people to get caught up in something which brings great harm to others and so we need to be careful what we believe, and to remember to act according to dictates of law and morality. The end never justifies the means in this type of situation.

McCarthyism went over the line. yet did have VERY valid element. we've and are infested with leftists in our platforms. Ken Starr's changed into over Clinton's undeniable mendacity. no longer sex. Salem changed into performed in Democratic Massachusetts..BTW. also, how'd that pretend CIA agent publicity witch hunt workout for Dems? pretty thinking Obama did worse. Feeding a courageous Pakistani health care professional to the canines. Who now serves a 33yr sentence for treason. For aide to the country in looking Osama. seems Obama did not like having to assert--convinced to taking Osama out? So, a health care professional will pay? seem, Dumas, we've 2 useless lawmen, a minimum of 100 and fifty useless Mexicans, plus dozens of crimes dedicated with F&F guns. completely fictional AK47's and worse. yet, those recommend no longer some thing to you, Holder, Pelsoi and Obama? F&F being a attainable body up? Pulled to tutor the want for added gun controls? the american human beings and the useless, deserve and insist an evidence. it truly isn't any petty housebreaking of the Watergate. it truly is assessor after the very certainty to homicide Obama claimed Exec Privy on.

hmmmm. there was a "novel" that came out some years ago that involved mo(u)ldy rye producing some chemical or other that was eaten by a woman, by accident, while pregnant, as i recall. sadly she produced a "monster", which then became "the family drama". i don't recall whether witches were involved, but i would't say no to that. anyway, i think the jealousy, dysfunction and general hysteria which arose around the infamous trials were caused more by more or less ordinary human failings than by ergot? (i think that's what it was in the book) somewhat of an hallucinogenic, i believe.

Wasn't it also about some officials who wanted to grab the land from the people, so found fault with them, any way they could.. and hadn't that ended when one of the officals mother was accused of being a witch.. and isn't she the one in most pictures, wearing the pointed hat..
All in all.. just another way people are accusing others, even today - for this or that.. we're all hunting 'witches' when we want things our way.. aren't we..

There is also the theory that the side of Salem these girls were from, may have had high levels of lead in the drinking water or some other kind of metal. That is why the girls involved were living in the same area.

Ahhhhh, - or -, it could have been because the church was entering a new phase of society - that of practicing medicine.
Midwives presented a problem for the church, as they were too much of a competing force. So in the styling of self serving religious leaders, they created lies and mistrust of their opposition, and persecuted midwives as witches. The church could easily accomplish this, as they had already placed themselves in a dominant governing role.
Interesting to note that Celtic midwives viewed nature as a healing force. A concept that our society is finally starting to recognize as superior to many chemical based remedies prelevant in western medicine today.

Not true. The children were motivated by jealousy. They also might have had some type of mental illness.
