I am really looking for some good mystery novels. I love the humorous ones that are character driven not gore driven. I enjoy Agatha Christie, Lillian Jackson Braun, Tamar Myers, Diane Mott-Davidson, and Joanne Fluke. Who do you recommend next?

I have adored mysteries since Encyclopedia Brown and Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys when I was in Elementary School.

I have not a lot of time to read them now but I do know I got hooked on my sisters book, an Anna Pigeon story in a book by Author Nevada Barr (http://www.nevadabarr.com/) however my sister also reads Tony Hillerman. And I Love to look for stuff to check out at the library (I go to mysteryguild and look up synopsises that I like and get the book if it's available and read it before I buy it)

Still, try that kind of search under COZY and I saw Joanne Fluke sounds a lot like Diane Mott-Davidson (I like the Catering-Mystery books by her, I've read a few);

Personally I recommend Heartbreaker by Julie Garwood (she, like Nora Roberts and Sandra Brown is writing Mysteries that are GREAT READS, I recommend their mysteries too if you like Diane Mott-David's style) and I think Mercy is the next in the series. You will love Hearbreaker if you like Diane Mott-Davidson. It's kind of got it all and a smart heroine to boot.
I also recommend King of Torts and The Partner by John Grisham, they are mysteries with a law twist, with a bit of it all as well. I love him, too, not too gory but VERY detailed and the suspense is awesome in his books if you can skip over the bits of legalese that some find a bit much.

Janet Evanovich - the Stephanie Plum novels, starting with "One for the Money". They're a bit racy (okay, a lot racy) but very funny, at least for the first six or eight.

Carl Hiaasen - I just started reading him - I started with "Skinny Dip." It was funny and a little offbeat, but in a good way.

J. D. Robb (Nora Roberts) - The ...in Death series, starting with "Naked in Death." There's some gore, but it never seems overwhelming. Lots of humor, and romance. Gotta love the romance.

Nevada Barr - the Anna Pigeon Mysteries, starting with "Track of the Cat." These have a bit more gore, but they're well written and a true mystery. Plus I love a female character with guts.

Elizabeth Peters - I haven't yet got into her Amelia Peabody series, set in Egypt in the early 1900's, but I like the Vicky Bliss mysteries, starting with Borrower of the Night.

if you enjoy reading Agatha Christie, here are five books I would recommend that you should read.

Death On The Nile
Murder On The Orient Express
The A.B.C. Murders
The Mysterious Affair of Styles
Peril At End House

These books I enjoyed reading because it was intriguing by the
characters, the storyline, and trying to figure out who did it.

Try Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series. The books are about this girl, Stephanie Plum, who becomes a bounty hunter in Trenton, NJ. She is not ver good, and has a tendency to get herself into a lot of trouble quickly. They are engagingly hilarious with some action and suspense thrown in. The first one is called "One for the Money". So far, there are 11 of them.

Definitely read the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. You cannot go wrong with that series. Funny, mysterious, romantic. You end up loving Stephanie and feeling like you're in her shoes.

the problem with mystery writers is all their books start to sound the same after awhile. i read a great book last year called 'mr. timothy' by louis bayard. it takes the charcter of tiny tim cratchit from dickens's 'christmas carol' and sets him at the age of 21, living in a victorian brothel teaching reading to the head mistress and trying to solve a murder mystery involing an 8 yr old eastern european girl. it's full of great imagery of victorian london and some other characters from 'christmas carol' show up too.
