Everyone except the conservative Christian right who think they know best for the world. (Hey, lets find another country to invade why don't we.)

What an untapped source of tax revenue. We could pay for Bush's wars.

Marijuana is addictive yes.. although they say it is not, I know alot of people who are addicted to it! weather they are addicted to the drug itself or the high who knows.
YES I think it should be legal! I believe that once the government can stop people growing it, they will make it legal and before you know it you will be buying joints from the shop, as soon as they can figure out a way to make as much money as they can it will be legal.
Look at tobacco, here in Australia it is the leading cause of death with 19000+ a year, alcohol has 9000+ deaths a year yet they are legal.. why? Because the government can make a fortune out of them..
There is no record of ANYONE dying from Marijuana, the only major health risk they have proven is linked with it, is schitzofrenia, IT is also proven that you must have it already as Marijuana only triggers it.. There are all the other risks such as emphasima, cancer yes, but it still is nothing compared to tobacco or alcohol.

its not physically addictive. of all the drugs out there its on the low end of the spectrum as far as damage to yourself and others. i thought it should be legal when i started smoking it 35yrs ago. its one of those things, our government will never admit they were wrong. alot of people would have never tried other drugs if they could have gotten weed, but they wanted to buzz and did what was available. if they legalized it the economy would benifit, look at the food industry, and if it were taxed, we would no longer have a deficit. everyone knows the government grows the best weed. drivers would slow down and we would all laugh alot. not too many people would get hurt in a car crash going 15mph.

Yes it is addictive. But marijuana should be legal anyway. Cigarettes, chocolate, alcohol, sugar, coffee, soda are all addictive too.
The adverse effects of marijuana are less than the adverse effects of alcohol. It is backwards to have one legal and not the other.
It is legal for medicinal purposes in 8 states now.
It wasn't always illegal, and the government of the USA, used to subsidize farmers who would grow it.

I think it should be legal, because people are still going to smoke it whether there's a law against it or not. If people are going to smoke it, shouldn't they be able to smoke it safely? When it's illegal, you run the risk of getting the tainted stuff, or weed that's otherwise unsafe (well, MORE unsafe). If it's sold in a controlled environment, like tobacco, then I think it shouldn't be as much of a problem.

I think it should be legal, but I also think people should refrain from using it out of concern for their own lives and minds.

Last I read, scientific studies show that it is not physically addictive. It is supposedly considerably safer than alcohol, both for the user, and for those around him or her (it does not make the user violent, it does not make the user a particularly dangerous driver).

I've read that it was originally made illegal because back in the 1930s or so, a newspaper company had large investments in trees, and an inventor devised a way to make paper more cheaply and easily from hemp. The newspaper company ran a series of stories making marijuana out to be extremely dangerous, turning people into rapists and whatnot. Between this working up of fear, and political connections, the company was able to get hemp banned, and protect its investment.

Currently, the money spent on enforcing laws against marijuana (police, courts, etc.), the issue of locking harmless people up in jail, away from their kids and jobs, and the crowding of prisons which should be used to house serious criminals (thieves, vandals, murders, sexual predators, etc.), means that keeping marijuana illegal really isn't worth it.

All this, to counteract the fact that marijuan wastes an individual's time, and, with long-term use, has negative effects on an individual's memory. Better, I think, to just let people incurr the costs of the their own bad decision if it is of this nature (namely, not hurting others).

Further, keeping marijuana illegal breeds widespread hypocrisy, insofar as very few people would be willing to turn in their friends, relatives, or neighbors over something as minor as marijuana possession. Yet they are willing to lock strangers up in jail over it.

Another issue often brought up is the claim that marijuana is a "gateway drug". Supposedly, many people who smoke marijuana later begin to use other, much more dangerous drugs. My position is that the fact that marijuana is really of relatively little danger (compare to alcohol, for example), yet is illegal, is the very reason it is likely to be a gateway drug. People use it, and thus see that it is of little danger, and subsequently they refrain from taking laws against any drugs seriously.

That said, don't use it if you want a clear, sharp mind, and a successful life. It's not worth putting you in jail if you want to do things that reduce your ability and potential, but it's also not good for you to do those things.

Well, weed itself is not addictive.. its the habit of it and the way it makes you feel that brings its smokers back continuously.... its much easier to stop early than cigarettes and other hard drugs... however once your a constnat pot smoker your in it for a long time... you dont want to stop, you dont see the reason to stop its unfortunate... however I do think it should be legal so its not abused.

i used to think it should be but not anymore! i've smoked it a good amount of times and loved it! oh by the way im in no way a pothead! i used to think this cant hurt anyone! but it can cause people to do stupid things! so now i say no! and i think it is addictive because i have a cousin and uncle that do it everyday and i asked them if they thought they could stop smoking it and they said probably not! my cousin stole money from me a couple of times to support his habit! now i dont even talk to him! so yea, marijuana should be legal and is infact addictive!

where is the research that weed is addictive, there isnt any real proof that it is, i know of one person who is what you might call addicted and its more like he's addicted to laziness, and i know alot of potsmokers myself included---i have smoked it off and on for over 13 years and never have a problem if it isnt available and sometimes i just dont want to for long periods of time---alcohol is at least 5 times as addictive, and is the cause of 1000's of injuries and deaths every year (my best friend included) by idiots driving drunk or drinking themselves dead---i believe the bible says or some religion says that we are allowed to use what god put here--god put weed here--it grows naturally there is no process for it it--you put it in the ground, grow it, pick it, dry it, smoke/eat it......you cant get better than that----it would take you 4 times as long smoking it as cigs to see a result in your lungs from it--but then again i can get cancer from the air i breathe.....and if it's so bad, why do people get it prscribed to them???? i wish i could get a prescription for it for my broken back--i would rather be able to control the drug in me than take the morphine they prescribed to me....talk about loopy lol.....and whats with those commercials stating statistics that weed is in the system of 7 out of 10 people involved in accidents--does that mean the driver or in general ---so you smoke a joint, and takes up to 30 days to be completely removed from your system does that mean 27 days later i am still high? how stupid is the government to stress over a natural drug that relieves stress, pain, depression, and many many other things yet a man who has had 12 DWI's doesnt go to prison til he kills a family of 5 on his 13th......and still have alcohol party commercials every 10 minutes promoting going to bars and drinking---no one is taking a cab home--no one wants to be the designated driver-------i think amsterdam has it right--they have one of the lowest crime rates in the world---everything is legal---lol just moderated and kept under some control...hell yes weed should be legal--damn my 83 year old gramma smokes it statistics and surveys show that 1 out of 3 people smoke weed on a somewhat regular basis--not just hippies, and low lifes, and bums--harvard educated lawyers, doctors, COPS, there isnt stereotype of people who do it--chances are everyday you interact with someone who smokes weed and dont even know it--you know when you are talking to someone under the influence of alcohol, cocaine, heroine, and sometimes prescription drugs -- not to mention the many uses of hemp lol-- where exactly is the logic---those of you who have never smoked it and then state the statistics that the GOVERNMENT came up with just shows how ignorant you are

Yes it is addictive. It has medical uses, it helps alot of sick people. Just like addictive pain pills, help with pain control. I think it should be legal, and our govt should tax it. You know we(USA) could use the money....
