Sagittarius & Cancer
When Cancer and Sagittarius make a love match, they both need to be patient and give the relationship time to grow and mature. As it develops, each love partner will discover that they have much to offer one another. At first, it just seems like Sagittarius is the thrill seeker who enjoys the occasional adrenaline rush, and that Cancer derives much more satisfaction from emotional security. Early in the relationship, Cancer may want more of a commitment than Sagittarius is willing to give. But as time goes by, Sagittarius will learn to appreciate the strong emotional support that Cancer offers.
These two lovers, Cancer and Sagittarius, have different approaches to life; Cancer lives on emotion and tradition, and Sagittarius is the restless wanderer. Cancer's emotional tidal wave can be difficult and overwhelming for Sagittarius to accept. And Cancer might be resistant to accepting their Sagittarian mate's restlessness and craving for external activities. A Cancer partner can offer a Sagittarius a secure home base, a place where Sag can go to keep their dreams and ambitions in perspective. The Sagittarius free spirit can lend Cancer's daily life a little diversity and excitement.
The Moon (Emotion) rules Cancer, and Jupiter (Philosophy) rules Sagittarius. The Moon is about love, nurturing and the maternal instinct. Jupiter focuses on expansion, optimism, luck and travel. Together this is combination of growth and expansion and of masculine and feminine energy; the two can sustain each other. When working toward a common goal, these two can combine their energies to great effect.
Cancer is a Water Sign, and Sagittarius is a Fire Sign. Sagittarius desires freedom, while Cancer longs for emotional security and stability, and these basic needs color their approach to life, to projects and to relationships. One lover may not always get where the other lover is coming from, but when they put their complementary energies together, sparks can fly and dreams can come true. If they value their intimate connection and their friendship and respect one another's opinions, their conflicts can usually be resolved.
Cancer is a Cardinal Sign, and Sagittarius is a Mutable Sign. Sagittarius moves from idea to idea and venture to venture as the feeling takes them, while Cancer is the instigator of new plans. A Cancer mate must give their Sagittarius lover the freedom to explore their own space and interests external to the relationship. Cancer can bring Sagittarius' great ideas to life, even if Sagittarius has lost interest and moved on. Sagittarius teaches Cancer the virtues of an open mind over constant and inflexible determination.
What's the best part of the Cancer-Sagittarius love match? The security they can give one another (once Cancer gives Sagittarius the freedom to offer that security freely). They make a compatible couple once they open themselves up to one another and accept as valid each other's differing life philosophies. If the lines of communication remain open and clear, and as long as these two take time to appreciate and celebrate their differences, theirs will be a stable and happy relationship.

I know a Cancer fem/Sag male couple that have been dating for 4 years, engaged for 2. They are both bad people, but that is beside the point.
Cancer + Sagittarius
Water + Fire = Steam
Sagittarius may appear as the knight in shining armour to you, Cancer, as your quiet and more docile mind is enamoured by the larger-than-life Sagittarian. Yes, it’s true that the Moon and Jupiter, ruling your signs respectively, are friendly and work extremely well together; however, Sagittarius is the sixth or problematic sector for Cancer and this relationship may not be destined to work in the long run. You see, Sagittarius is honest, even blunt, and at times insensitively so. Certainly you’ll appreciate the truthful, straightforwardness of the jovial Sagittarian, but you’re highly sensitive to criticism and to this type of honesty, too. Naturally you’ll try to hide these feelings and Sagittarius will be none the wiser. But this won’t continue for long and at some point the searing heat of Sagittarius will steam your usually cool waters into a showdown.
Sagittarius must learn the art of diplomacy (not one of their most notable skills) if they hope to make a relationship with you successful, Cancer. The flipside of the coin is true, though, and you need a thicker skin to handle the brash Sagittarian. Cancer is the eighth or sexual sign from Sagittarius so there’s some hope for a hot affair because of the elemental combination but, again, this could be fleeting due to the many basic differences between the two temperaments.
Sagittarians born between 2 and 11 December are an excellent match and promise a high degree of compatibility with you, even if this isn’t a perfect alliance. Marriage and permanent bonds are likely with them. Those born between 23 November and 1 December alternate between friends and enemies. Clearly ascertain their motives in any relationship with you before getting too involved. There’s financial compatibility with those born between 12 and 22 December and work may override your romantic attraction for them.

On the surface, it's a terrible combination, because the two signs have nothing in common in terms of element, and they don't even complement each other. However, Sagittarius can certainly bring Cancer the crab out of his shell. You will probably not be able to mope around the house when your Sagittarius girlfriend is making you go white-water rafting. Sagittarius likes travel and nature; Cancer is into photography, so there's some common ground. Cancer is usually more grounded, traditional and family-oriented, and both signs like children. Sagittarius can open your mind, and you'll never have to sit and worry about what she's thinking. She might run you over like a steamroller, though, if you're too passive. But DO NOT PLAY GAMES with her. Both signs are dreamers, but Sagittarius is more likely to pursue the dream directly while Cancer is more inclined to do it vicariously.
Good luck!!

Any sign can be with any other sign! It all depends on your whole chart, based on your DATE, PLACE, EXACT TIME of birth, not just your Sun signs.
Your whole chart then is then compared to the other person's whole chart using a technique called Synastry.
The aspects between each other's planets and points must be looked at and interpreted. The planets in each others houses must be looked at and interpreted, both ways. Affinities must be looked for. It's not simple to a layperson, but it is to people who are educated in Astrology terminology.
Sun sign horoscopes are absolutely inaccurate to determine compatibility between two people.

Your natures are so different that you are bound to clash at times. Very often when Sagittarius feels the urge to travel, explore, expand, and follow a new star, Cancer feels just the opposite: the urge to be close to family, to establish roots, to have children and provide for them, to be near close friends. Sagittarius's desire for freedom and exploration is often at cross purposes with Cancer's need for security.
Sagittarius tends to also be philosophical and detached about personal matters while Cancer takes a much more personal, subjective, compassionate, and emotional approach to life. Although in theory your differences can complement each other, and sometimes they do, there are times when you will have to be very creative and imaginative to find ways to meet everyone's needs.
Your emotional needs and temperaments are quite different, and this creates frustration for both of you, or at least discomfort at times.
Cancer is inwardly tender and sympathetic, and has a great yearning for closeness, and a sense of belonging or security. A very sensitive and feeling person, Cancer can be quite moody. Feelings of nostalgia, longing, melancholy, crabbiness, and worry or anxiety are a part of Cancer's emotional nature. Sagittarius on the other hand, is cheerful and upbeat most of the time, and is frequently impatient with Cancer's moods and insecurities. Sagittarius may try to intellectualise or philosophise Cancer out of feeling moody. Rather than accepting Cancer's feelings, Sagittarius will either ignore them entirely or try to lighten them up. But in either case, Cancer ends up feeling misunderstood or simply not accepted.
Also, Cancer has a strong concern with, and attachment to, the past, while Sagittarius is forward-looking and concerned more with the future. Cancer is domestic and needs a strong, secure home base, while Sagittarius yearns for the new and unfamiliar. Sagittarius is more adventurous and more willing to uproot and change residences in pursuit of growth and opportunities, and Sagittarius doesn't want to be completely possessed or tied down. Freedom, mobility, and a certain degree of independence are essential for Sagittarius, who may feel dragged down by Cancer's neediness, emotionality, and need for roots.
Furthermore, Sagittarius is naturally quite candid, frank and rather tactless. Sagittarius doesn't take everything as personally as Cancer does, and often hurts Cancer's feelings unintentionally. Sagittarius may feel that natural self-expression must be inhibited in order to accommodate Cancer's oversensitivity, and this can be frustrating.
Positively, Cancer can benefit from Sagittarius's humour and optimism, and Sagittarius may learn to acknowledge and accept innermost feelings more fully as a result of being with Cancer.
This is likely to be a stormy and fiery relationship. The romantic attraction between you is very strong, but your feelings are often not in tune with each other. One of you (typically Sagittarius, but sometimes Cancer) may feel sexually aroused by the other and consequently be too aggressive in approach, while the other person feels great love and affection, but is not feeling as sexually attracted. Jealousy and possessiveness are also likely. Feelings can swing back and forth and you may not realise how much you love each other until you are away from each other.
This is a passionate relationship, but also a rather aggressive and combative one at times. Sex may be a bit rough, crude, or insensitive as well. You stimulate each other both in sexual and non-sexual ways, but you are also inclined to irritate each other.
You may find it difficult to respond confidently in a sexual relationship together. Sagittarius may take more than Cancer is willing to give. Selfishness and mood swings can put a damper on your sex-life.
As a couple, you generate a lot of positive energy, enterprising ideas, and a belief that you can do anything you really want to. You reinforce the encouraging attitude that what you do can really make a difference. Confidently acting upon those beliefs produces successful results in the world. A sense of ambition and enterprise infuses your relationship. However, minor achievements or humble successes, and even some of you grander accomplishments will not be enough for you. You'll always be seeking the next challenge, the farther horizon. The two of you must join forces and work together for some mutual goal, for you're apt to feel restless, discontented, and dissatisfied when you aren't doing something. A good bit of healthy, friendly competition between you will invigorate and challenge you both. Sports or outdoor activities would be good outlets for your combined energies.
