I like historical fiction or nonfiction..I just finished Devil in the White City, which i liked. I also like books like Joy Luck Club. You know, those kind of books that really transport you back in time and give you a feel of the age. Please recommend! Thank you!

I really love historical fiction too! Some favorite authors are James Michner, Edward Rutherfurd, and if you like Christian fiction I love Francine River's historical fiction too. If you liked Joy Luck Club you might try Pearl Buck's The Good Earth.

Often overlooked by modern standards are the historical fiction works of Louis La'mour, the western writer. Most are real accurate and give one a insite into the past.

The sagas by James Chavelle-probably spelled wrong-are exotic in the way he puts the prose together. And try Harold Robbins for some trashy pseudo-historical fiction.

I think you would be delighted with Susan Howatch's historical fictions. Each one is huge yet intensely readable, and they are usually written from the point of view of six different characters, all picking up in time from where the other left off.
I think her best ones are Cashelmara and The Wheel of Fortune. They were immensely popular so you can probably find them in second hand book stores easily. I have read each one probably five or six times. Enjoy!

A friend of mine is an author. She writes stories of things that really happened to her. Her stories are very realistic, and based on things that really happened.

Visit her website, start with Tainted Sand, then move on to Tainted Towers. Her latest book is Tainted Town. I could not believe that she had these things happen to her.

Each book is about 300 pages. This should take about 3 hours to read. Another friend of mine says "don't start too late in the evening, because you won't put the book down".

Try the Alienist by Caleb Carr. It is a terrific murder mystery featuring one the first (within context of the story anyway) criminal psychologists. Very detailed. Very bloody. Very well written.

I also love anything by Daniel Silva. Most of his books feature an art restorer who moonlights as an assassin for the Isreali government. Really good.

The best historical fiction I ever read was "Katherine" by Anya Seton.....it was hard to put down! You'll feel like you've been transported to 14th century England.....its beautifully written and very well-researched....give it a try.....I think you'll enjoy it!
