Put yourself in a zone...and focus. I used to have that fear like you did. I still do.

Just focus on something else and also...if you're in a room with objects, just stare at one and concentrate.

My first thought was to suggest singing in a group, but you say you already do that in a choir.

Perhaps singing in a smaller group would be the next step - a trio or duet? I hope that thought doesn't scare you as much. Then you should get more and more comfortable singing in front of people.

Sing alone in front of just one person. Then keep increasing the number of people until you think that you can handle the stage. If you can't do that, then, I'm sorry, but it looks like you're just not meant to be a singer. Follow one of your other career ideas.

You are talking to the "queen of kareoke" !!
I have sang in front of people at our State Fair.
I wasn't nervous at all. But there are times when I do
get nervous still. Singing puts you out there for the world
to see and hear you. So it's a bit scary but just try not to
be self-concious. Focus on the words of the songs, and
just sing with feeling....that is very important. ok, that's all.

Realize that your fear has become a habit for you. You start singing, you get scared. It's happened so often that your mind just does it on its own because it's accustomed to it.

Trying to break the habit will help. Keep singing in the shower and when your dad speaks up, just sing louder! Trust that your audience is really listening to you, and that they aren't thinking bad things about you while you're singing. Prove to them that you can do it!

Well I used to have a horrible fear of speaking in front of people so here is what I did. I joined a club where I regularly had to speak in front of people! It was horrible, I got dizzy, I got hives but I did it! I even learned to do it well enough that I got a standing ovation at my high school graduation!

So just start to do it and video tape yourself so that you are aware of how you look and how you sound. It will help you adjust your performance so that you can become more confident!

from one singer to another...i rock when i sing. it works. there is something comforting. I literally rock to the beat or if it's acapella i am doing i close my eyes. Weirdly i face my fear at my grandmothers funeral because she made me love the music the way i do. so sometimes it helps to have or do something that comforts you at that. momen trust me it works
