A lot of people get on birth control to regulate their periods I was one of them. I would assume that her mom would know that she doesn't have regular periods so it shouldn't take much convincing. Just have her talk to her mom about how she wants to be more regular, and have a lighter and less painful period. If she doesn't understand she can go to her local health department and get it for free and they won't tell her parents. But maybe she should look into some other form of birth control beside the pill. I had a hard time remembering to take it everyday and I can imagine a 13 year old having that problem as well. There is the patch and the ring which I really liked. But I am assuming that a 13 year old is still a virgin and won't want to stick a ring up her. Hope this helps...

She should have her mom take her to the doctor, if there is a reason she is having problem with her period the Doctor may want to put her on birth control pills to regulate her period. Has she told her mom she is having problems with her period?

Helping bad periods is an excellent reason to take birth control pills.

If her mom has objections because she might start having sex, then a discussion of STDs and emotional complications from having sex needs to be discussed.

Besides, fear of pregnancy isn't that great a deterrant, considering all the pregnant girls there are.

She could just ask her mum to take her to the Dr to discuss her options. Her mum should be understanding as she would know she is in a lot of pain each month.

Or she could go to a Dr on her own..?

If she really wants the pill for contraception (to stop having babies) then a condom is best.

Umm yeah just tell her to tell her mom. Is that big of a deal to explain that she has irregular periods and bad cramping. Plus there is a chance that she could possible have endometriosis from what you are describing and that is something that diff. needs to be taken care of.

Your cousin should go to the dr. She doesn't necessarily have to go on the pill (there are other meds that help)but if the dr recommends them how can the Mom say no???

Has she gone to the doctor? I think that its really important to see her doctor and see if she is ready for birth control. Birth control worked for my friend who had terribly irregular periods, which sounds about the same as your cousin. Please be careful and make certain that her mother knows about what is going on. I am sure that once she knows about her daughter's pains, she'll want to take care of it immediately. Good Luck!

Maybe she should just ask her mom to take her to the doctor. Then if the doctor thinks she needs the pills, then her mother will hear his/her opinion and they can go from there.
