I want to have a pet but i live alone so my pet will have to stay either inside or outside my house.

Also, since i live alone i will be the only person to take care of this pet.
Maybe i should get a plant instead?

You first need to think about how much time you have to spend with your pet. A dog will need the most time, fish can be time consuming if you don't set up an aquirium properly and this can be quite expensive, birds are fun but make quite a mess with seed and feathers, cat is the most independent of the choices and they don't need as much space as a dog. I own all of the above, but if I were to just be able to keep one, it would be my cat.

Do you work during the day? Consider something small and furry - that sleeps during the day and is active in the evening. For many years we had syrian hamsters, as we worked long daytime hours. Properly set up modern cages can mean that these little pets can be safely left to their own devices for a day or two if you are away from home, too. Bear in mind that you can only have one of these per cage ... they dont like living together!
Cute little russian hamsters need more work and need to live in groups ... they become man eating little darlings when kept as loners!
We once had a european hamster ... looked more like a guinea pig in size ... and needed heavy leather gloves to feed and handle as it proved untameable and quite happy to eat the hand that fed it!
Gerbils are fun, live in groups ... but be careful you have the same sex - or you'll be over-run with the mini-kangeroo like darlings!
Chinchillas and Degus are lovely, but need climate controlled living areas (airconditioning in the room where they are kept) if you live in a hot climate. They need lots of cage space and ideally a run out of the cage for a hour or so each day, in a safe chin-proofed room. They love chewing and have a taste for electric wires!
House rabbits can be fun too - but you need to rabbit proof the rooms where they have access or you'll end up with chewed wires, carpets and furniture.
So you have loads of creatures to choose from ... not to mention cats, dogs, mice, rabbits, fish, reptiles, spiders and snakes ... and so on. Work out what time you have for a pet and where you want to keep it, they do a little research - it's worth it to find the ideal friend.
Good luck.

Fish and Cats are really easy. Birds can stink and they poop if you let them out. Fish easy especially if you buy a good filter like a fluval. I clean mine like once every 6 months (they say to do it once a month) and the water stays perfect. Do fresh water fish as they are cheaper and easier to care for. Cats easy as well. They almost totally potty train themselves once you show them the cat box. They are happy staying inside. They don't chew things up. You dont have to pay attention to them if your having a bad day. I would get both:-)

Are you home or are you away most of the time? It depends on that too.
