I'm trying to put an older computer back together but it's mobo battery is gone. How do I know what type mobo battery (the nickel size battery; I believe most are lithium) I need for this board?

Mobo is a: MSI Slot 1 Motherboard (MS6117) Ver.1.1 LX6.

Help please. I'll never get this thing going without the battery. Again, it's just a nickel size chrome battery that fits in a shallow small hole on the mobo and is held in place by a small metal clip (that clip is probably the anode or cathode side of the battery too).

This is a desktop......NOT a laptop.

They are very common 3v batteries.
CR2032, from Walmart, Best Buy, Radio Shack, some grocery stores...etc.

Below is a link to a site to help you install it.

Most mobos use a CR2032 battery. They are readily available at Radio Shack.

As far as I am aware in my ten years of working on computers, all motherboard batteries are universial. Go to a computer dealer and chances are they have one they will give you or sell real cheap.

Yup. hunt around and find the motherboard manual, they will tell you what size you need.

Or haul it into any decent sized computer repairshop, they will match the battery for you.

take a look around a store and buy a couple different batteries.
Maybe you might get lucky and find one that fits into it.
