i've noticed that some responses to my question have to do with illegal immigration. i don't know about that stuff, i'm puerto rican, we don't have greencards, we are citizens even if we're born in PR, it's commonwealth buttmunches. stay in school....

because people are stupid and overgeneralize. i think some non-hispanic people do that to make us seem unworthy of being distinguished or something, you know what i mean?

Well, from what I've observed a "Hispanic" can be from Mexico or Spain. A "Latino" can be from anywhere in the Americas south of the states (i.e. Mexico or anywhere in South America). These two groups are really to diverse to be groups, most of the Spanish people I've met don't call themselves "Hispanic", they say they're Spanish and a lot of South Americans just say what country they're from.
The thing is (except for some of the people from Spain) they all have the same skin, hair and eye colors so they must all be the same.
It's kind of like how I'm "white" (Scandinavian ancestors) but I'm not at all the same as a Russian or an Italian. But because we're the same color, morons and politics insist we're the same.

Heck, if they're going to be that stupid, they might as well not make a distinction between Chinese and Japanese.

Maybe because most Americans, save for the annoyingly politically correct, don't give a s'hit where the f'uck your ancestors came from; nor do they care that you are all different. And the sooner everyone drops this newly found PC driven sensitivity, maybe we can all get on with our lives rather than spend them pondering who we will offend if we say this that or the other thing. Cool your jets and just be American. Or whatever the f'uck else you want to be!!!!

Americans are sometimes dumb (no offense I'm American). Just because they are only aware of Mexico they think all people that speak Spanish are from Mexico. They are not aware that Spanish is the most used language in the whole continent. More countries speak Spanish than any other language in the world.

Everyone assumes my husband is Mexican when they hear his name and find out we are from New Mexico even though his family came from Spain, as did many of the families who settled in New Mexico. They also always ask me if my daughter is half-Mexican. I don't know why that is always the assumption, maybe they don't realize there is a whole world out there, they only know what's in North America.

Yes, everyone is a Mexican if they come to the US illegally. Even if you're from South or Central America, if you have a Spanish accent, even if you're here legally, you're just a Mexican.

Its political correctness at work again. I prefer to say Mexican or Spanish for example, but the pc police will get you for that.

Ignorance.

Alot of people don't know or understand (I'm one of them) I'd like to learn more. I guess I've lived a very sheltered life. I live in Wisconsin.
