Check out John James Audobon's Birds of North America. While most of the artwork is of the whole bird, he also did numerous details of feathers on many of his plates (art prints). Check for it at the library. You may also look for a book about Roger Tory Peterson, as he is one of the best contemporary bird artists in America. His field guides don't have too much, but his larger books are good. The other good artist with feathers was Louis Agassiz Fuertes. Check out any of them online or at your local library.
