I have made cookiees, breads, and candies. I put them in a basket with a Christmas ornament, pictures, and maybe something else that the recipient likes. I wrap each type of baked good and place them in the basket. I have made labels for the food using clip art off the computer. After I fill the basket, I add candy canes, peppermints, and hershey kisses. If the basket is deep, shredded paper works real good to bring the botton to a useable level.

I am an avid scrapbooker. For my high school graduation, I gave my 3 best friends a scrapbook filled with pictures and journaling of memories over the years. It took me quite awhile to put the 3 books together but in the end, I knew I had chosen the perfect gift to give my friends. It is a keepsake that they are able to look back upon and remember the times we had together (dating all the way back to kindergarten!). I do not know if you take many pictures or who you were planning on giving the homemade gifts to, but making a scrapbook for loved ones would be wonderful. Instead of baking (which they would appreciate), it will get eatten up and they won't have anything left to remember your thoughtfulness.
I will be graduating from college this coming spring and I plan on making my 4 best friends from college scrapbooks from the past 4 years together!
Just remember that your scrapbook can be as simple or elaborate as you want to make it. No matter what, your friends and family will truly be grateful for such a nice keepsake.
Good luck!

I have made quilts! All sizes and for babies, graduation and I have a wedding quilt for my oldest niece- getting married this Friday!
If you can't do quilts, you may want to try a neat gift- putting all the ingredients for goodies in a jar! The jar has flour, sugar, etc. all the ingredients you need to make cookies, brownies, etc- except maybe the eggs and water! Dress up the jar with ribbon and attach a recipe!
Baskets of goodies are nice, too. You can include goodies to eat, candles, etc. Something everyone can use. You can be as sophisticated as you want, or go classy- and use small items to save on expenses.

Soothing eye pillows.
Using a smooth silky material I make a pillow casing just large enough to cover both eyes. I fill with dried lavender and flax seed. Stitch up the end and gift!

I made glass etched stemware,Adapted a cross stitch pattern, drew it on white contact paper and applied it to the glasses. I then cut the pattern out with an exato knife and (following mfg. directions ) applied glass etching cream. They looked very expensive, but were done quite cheaply. P.S. The pattern for cross stitch monograms came from Dover books.

First off, I wanted to say thank you to everyone for their answers!! These are great!! I'm going to use a few myself!!
Some things that I'm planning on doing is painting some pots and then growing herbs in them to give out. Also, paint jewelry boxes, and making a necklace and pair of matching earrings.

Cookies, candy, any sweet home-made treat. No one has ever looked disappointed when they received this gift.
