I've never heard of acne being fatal but it IS infection on the skin, so I'm honestly not sure.

Here are some REALLY good, and very inexpensive ways to treat most acne at home. Show this to your friend; maybe it will help her.

Try each method (unless you’re allergic to the ingredients) until you find one that works best for you. Good luck =) BTW, I know some of these may sound bizarre but try them…what have you got to lose other than the acne!!

1. Put toothpaste on your acne before going to bed. (Make sure it is paste not gel). It should reduce the swelling of acne noticeably.

2. Dab egg whites on your acne and leave on for 20 minutes or overnight. It’s supposed to pull the infection out of the blemish.

3. Wash acne infected areas twice a day with warm salt water. This reduces oils in the skin and helps to dry the acne up without further agitation.

4. Use ice on acne before going to bed. This works best on pimples that have not yet formed a head. It reduces swelling and helps to prevent scarring.

5. Wash and dab acne with cotton balls that have been soaked in vinegar. Let dry; do not wash off immediately.

6. Place strawberries leaves over your acne and the alkalinity will help to reduce the swelling.

Y'know something that extreme really needs to be looked-at by a doctor! it is NOT NORMAL!

As for fatality: Yes, I suppose that it is possible to get the so-called "flesh-eating bacteria" into ANY open wound (and an open, oozing acne pustule would qualify), and one could die of "toxic shock" from that. But the fatality would have been caused by the secondary infection, not by the acne itself.

Also, as the other poster mentioned, suicide is always a possibility when one is literally deformed and shunned. It's good that you're her friend! She needs friends who can see beyond her looks. As her friend, can you encourage her or her parents to take her to a doctor?

that doesn't sound good at all! i went to school with a kid that had terrible acne from when i met him in 7th grade, til when i left that school in 11th grade. it was really, really bad...like everywhere and very scabby. i felt bad for him, because i don't think he could do much to help it.
try and encourage your friend to see a dermatologist if her parents can afford it, or maybe you could donate some of your acne medicine(not prescribed of course!) to her. do it in as positive of a manner as you can...she could also be trying some products on her own, but just can't get her face and body completely clear.
definitely try and be helpful though--acne can cause a lot of emotional and social problems. i know, because i was there. :-/

No acne can not be fatal. Acne can be treated by a dermatologist. People can become depressed about their acne and that may lead to other serious issues but the acne itself is not fatal.

If it bothers one to self mutilation and/or eventually suicide than yes, she really should see a dermatologist. As embarrassing as it may seem you should talk to a trusted adult or a school nurse, because it could be hindering with her ability to enjoy life :(
