The UN post was an observation post, and this is they key: they were observing. Israel did not want the UN observing what they were doing. To prevent this, Israel targeted the UN outpost to silence the witnesses. It would have been impossible for the Israelis to make a mistake, they are much to accurate and deliberate in what they do. These outposts are flying a big UN flag right on top and it would be impossible to mistake it for anything else.
This is not the first time that Israel has done something like this. In 1967, during the Six Day War, just before the Israelis stormed into the Golan Heights, the USS Liberty, an American reconnaisance ship, was sitting in international waters off the Gaza coast when it was attacked by Israeli fighter jets and torpedo boats. The Israelis did not want any observers to wintness their attack on Golan. The Israeli jets even came back to strafe survivors in lifeboats. The Israelis denied that this attack was deliberate, just as they will now deny that they deliberately targeted the UN outpost. You can safely bet that the attack on the UN post was deliberate and premeditated. They want no witnesses when they bomb civilians.

How do you know it was deliberate? Have you heard of the concept of friendly fire? Why is the UN observer team doing besides getting in the way?
If the UN is going to be there watching the Israeli's, they better stay out of the way. We all know they are not there watching Hezbollah. Hezbbollah has a free reign to kill innocents while Israel is "watched" by fools such as yourself. Hezbollah controls one 3rd of the Lebanese government, so when does it become a nation state, and not a bunch of thugs? When does Hezbollah become responsible for their terrorism? When they gain 51% or greater of government?

They didn't. Israel targeted Hezb'Allah militants who where shooting rockets into the Israeli civilian population at random.
Unfortunately, and in violation of the Geneva Convention, Hezb'Allah locates its missiles and takes cover near UN observer teams... and hospitals, schools and other civilians.
Hezb'Allah does this knowing that either (1) Israel will avoid attacking them or (2) if they are attached, Hezb'Allah gets a propoganda victory--as illustrated by your question.
In fact, Israel has since acknowledged and apologized for ths error. I've yet hear Hezb'Allah do so with respect to the Israeli civilians it has killed.

There is a good chance they did not target the UN, rather, their target hid behind the UN observers. This is a common tactic. It's a super public relations approach. As you can see, it works. People focus on why they kill UN observers and civilians instead of realizing that it was a ploy by their enemy. People, and certainly the media, tend to fall for it most of the time.

to send a message. get the f--- out and don't meddle in OUR affairs. it's also routine to target ambulances. that's a war crime but not many of us care about that sort of thing.
the point is to spread utter terror. you know, something along the lines of what one might call 'shock and awe.'
go back to 1948, when Israeli terrorists murdered the UN peace negotiator, Count Bernadotte of Sweden or in fact, look into the case of the USS Liberty when Israel attacked the ship and killed 34 US servicemen. To this day, some claim that this incident happened in the fog of war and Israel mistook the naval ship for an Egyptian supply ship. No one who survived the attack buys this story.

Not good - but who in their right minds puts an observer team on the top of Khiam, a Hezbollah stronghold, in a time of war??? The result could have been foretold by a 5 year old!
